Sunday I rode up to Lake Tahoe for the day. Coming back around 9PM on hwy580 at Altamont Pass (where the windmills are) I encountered the strongest winds I've ever felt on a motorcycle. The Northbound section from US5 (side winds) was the worst, but once it turned West there was heavier traffic and crazies cutting in and out. I was being blown from line to line. I tried every speed and riding position to stay in control. When I got thru the pass the winds lessened but my arms and neck ached.

Crosswinds are never fun. Glad you made it unscathed.

There's a reason they built that windfarm there. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

58 through Tehachapi and 395 through Mono lake are the same way. Crosswinds like you wouldn't believe.

Reminds me of the day I brought my wifes C50 home. 20 miles straight into a 25mph headwind with gusts up to 30. No windshield. Not much fun.
