After reading the Pleasure ride post, it lead me to write this post. I always try to ride my bike slow and easy and very defensively. When I see a car come up on a crossing road, I'm always off my gas and on both brakes slowing down. If I see the cager even think about coming out, I'm on the brakes.

Anyway, my wife and I were two up coming home from dinner tonight-riding Hwy 12, a nice curvy, two lane, freshly paved, tree lined road on the southern tip of Lake Michigan. It's a 45 MPH limit but would be great at 70. I always try and ride the speed limit here. As we rounded a curve, we came up on 5 squad cars and two fire trucks.

A bike and a truck, the cops flagged us through pretty quickly. This is always one intersection that I'm always very leary of and now it will be worse. I'll always remember this night when I drive by there. You all keep you eyes open because those blind cagers won't. Be safe and ride safe!!!!

We need to make ourselves visible and be alert.

I think we all have a few of "those" intersections or curves etc where the hairs on the back of the neck stand out. You either had a pucker moment there, saw someone else have one or something about it just bothers you. I ride like you do, always doubting all driveways, streets, intersections and ALL cagers.

Thanks for the posting. After recent events, I have been taking it more carefully also. Went on a poker run and three different smaller rides this week, all with a different "mindset".

We have to imagine we are invisible and assume that everyone in sight will violate our right of way. Anytime we become complacent with those two rules we are asking for trouble!

Spot on. Also NEVER violate the assured clear distance rule. Don't pop over hills or around corners at high speed if you can't see beyond them.

There are a few spots like that around here too. You've always got to be very alert.

That is a big one here when we go riding the back "country" roads.
