Ok, I have decided to install a trunk on my Nomad for 2 reasons, extra storage and my wifes comfort. She likes the stock backrest but wants somthing closer to a wings backrest.
What types of trunks are available at a reasonable cost.
I can build my own wompus rack so all I need is a trunk.

My understanding is that one can buy the Harley Classic trunk or the Yamaha Venture trunk on ebay. I've seen them and even used still are pricey and then you'd have to paint it. I know what you mean about the wifey wanting a better spot to rest! She still thinks I should have bought the Gold Wing just because of that Throne she would be sitting on! I tell her to pipe down! I love my Nomad!

I think the late model yamaha venture trunks look the best.

blowndodge/ponch, I would love to put a late model venture trunk on but all the ones I find are pretty steep and need alot of work. I guess I will just keep looking around.

Traded in a 1999 SE Goldwing on my Nomad. One of the things I did not like about the Wing was how badly the gusty sidewinds affected it. Nomad is much better. Felt like part of the problem was the large trunk acting like a sail. I agree the storage was nice , and my wife did like it, but she is ok with the Nomad's good backrest.

GH, I forgot all about you saying that. What you want for it?
Any problems I should know about. You can hit me on here or my personal email.

Matazu and Scootworks both have trunks which will work on the Nomad. Matazu is less expensive. Both have backrests with armrests.

How close to west texas are you? I happen to have 2 or 3 of the HD trunks in my possession. I don't have a helluva lot in them so we could probably come to agreement regarding price, shipping etc. I had a HD trunk on my 02 Nomad as well as the HD faring, and enjoyed the extra space and the protection. That Nomad was totalled in 04 and I now ride an 05 Nomad. I haven't yet had time to install a trunk on it as yet, but i will be keeping one of the trunks for that purpose.

Thanks for the offer druid, but I have went with the Venture trunk. I actually will have 2 of them. One will be a detachable model for when I travel alone and the other will stay mounted when my wife Marla rides with me. One I bought and need to go get and the other one was free. The free one came from a friend who will paint both the trunks to match my bike.
I like having options so may even install a receiver hitch and mount one there. I like to experiment and make different things so you never know what I will be building and installing on my bike.

The HD trunk will give you the most room for storage... Myself I prefer the looks of the late model Yamaha trunk but I've not been able to find one... I use the HD trunk with the Wompass rack...

Just thought I would share some pics of the trunk I installed that I got off of GH. Check out the custom mount I made today.

bluetongue,
I like your trunk and the custom made mount! Very nice. Is that a 67 or 68 Chevy PU I see in the garage? I kept a 68 Chevy PU shortbed in my garage for several years. It had a half built corvette low-profile 350 in it. Eventually, my wife made me sell it to make more room in the garage.

Trip, the truck is a 69 long bed with a 425hp small block what you can't see is the extra hp in the bed 250 hp nitrous. Ya the wife wants me to sell it since I have had it for 14 years and never finished restoring it. Just one of many unfinished projects.

Nice work Bluetongue. Is that finely crafted bracket stainless or aluminium?

Have any of you seen one of the Mutazu tour packs out there? The one style looks a lot like a Harley tour pack but they are just a little smaller. They have been selling on E-bay and at www.mutazu.com (http://www.mutazu.com) for about $110.00 plus shipping. I would like to have a little more storage once and a while but. don't want to pay $600-800 bucks to have it. I'm wondering about the quality if these things are that inexpensive.

I have a HD tour pak sitting in a spare room that I bought off one of the guys in my riding group for $450. That included the Wompus rack. I need to find someone to paint it to match my bike. It came off a Nomad as well. I keep pondering whether the extra weight will give me trouble when backing up the bike. Hmmmmmmmmm

I have a Kawasaki Voyager Trunk on my 02 Nomad. I used a Wampus rack to mount it. The trunk looks like it was made for a Nomad. I had to shop around to get all the parts for it and I repaired a broken corner with fiberglass and repainted it. If I could figure out how to include a picture I would have.

kawgirl, I have not noticed any difference in the weight of the bike.
