This morning I met with the local Blue Knight chapter for breakfast and rode 100 miles with them to see them off to the Western Conference. When we stopped for gas a Nomad pulled up with a BACA member riding it. Nice guy from Utah. Told him about KawaNOW and gave him a card with the web address on it. He was excited and I was happy finding one Nomad.
There is a sizeable POW-MIA rally here in Pocatello this weekend. Thousands of bikes. I decided to walk the parking lot looking for Nomads. Found three and put my business card on all three with and invite to visit www.KawaNOW.org. (http://www.KawaNOW.org.) Went back later in the day and found one bike parked downtown at a pool hall. Turned around and went in looking for the owner. Nice guy from southern Utah. I asked if he was aware that he had a coolant leak on the motor and he walked out with me to inspect it. I think he will visit the site when he gets home. Continued on to the rally and paid my $ to get in. Big mistake because I found a few things that I can't do without. New patches for a vest my brother in law gave me two weeks ago and a very nice USMC ball cap. As I was leaving with my new patches and hat the guard at the gate stopped me and said that he was wondering who had the bike that looked like his. It was parked off to the side. I got off and talked to him for about a half hour, lives right here in Poky. Then in came the other Nomad from town that I had spotter earlier. Chased them down and they live here in town. Told all of them about KawaNOW and they seemed very interested to know about the site. We really need KawaNOW business cards that we can leave on Nomads when we find them. It was a good day. Four new Nomads and people who own them.
Very cool Idaho!!
You were a busy man for KawaNow today!
Looks like you need to be the CPD for the NorthWest, Idaho...LOL.
Thanks for promoting KawaNOW......also new cards are in the works.....I have a graphic designer friend that is designing us new cards. I'll have a bunch printed and send them out.
It'll be in a couple of weeks.
Thanks,
Trip

Idaho, the "goodwill ambassador"! I've only run into other Nomads at some group rides I've been on, and I make it a point to tell each one about KawaNOW. AZ is Harley country, 9 out of 10 bikes I see on the road are H-D. Well, non-sport bikes anyway. It's always nice to meet someone who rides a Nomad, though.

Great effort Idaho. I see others around also; but haven't had the chance to speak with many of them yet. Plan to though.
Cards would be a great idea Trip.
Regarding HD country Cactusjack; you ought to live near HD's headquarters Milwaukee!! (I am within an hour) It is about the percentage you mentioned.
I do see other Nomads around though... more so than in years past.

Idaho the recruiter, great job! I too have noticed more Nomads lately, and every time I get to talk to them, I invite them to visit the site.
Trip, when you get the design of the cards, send it to me, and I'll print out a few to pass around down here in the SE.

In the Phoenix area, there are a lot of upper-midwest transplants. Thousands and thousands of people from the Chicago/Milwaukee/Minneapolis region, which might explain some of it. Probably the biggest reason is if you want to ride year round, this is one place you can do it.

I know what you mean. Lot's have moved there over the last 10-15 years.
Having been in AZ many, many times, I envy you and others that have that advantage. In my area the early season starts around March if you are in a snow suit; and goes as late as early November -- again if you where a snow suit. Otherwise; you ride more comfortably from around April/May to September/October. Unless you ride in the rain; you have 6 months at best. Winter's are long when just staring at your bike!
I wanted to rent a bike the last time I was in Tucson in January so I could ride it up to Prescott to see family. I couldn't find anyone to rent besides an HD dealer. Almost did that, but didn't. Wish I could find Kawa dealer that would rent in that area -- or in the Phoenix area for that matter.
In the heat of the summer in Phoenix you can simply ride up into the White Mountains or to Prescott to find cooler weather -- something I assume you have done.

I think I heard once that something like 3 out of 8, or just < 50% of the residents of Maricopa County have some tie to the Chicago area. Much of that is due to Motorola's presence here for many years. Motorola used to be the largest private employer in the area, now that's Walmart and Motorola is quite small here.
Yes, we head up north to the mountains every chance we get, the only problem is the 70-80 miles of desert we have to ride through to go to/from the mountains. It does get old, though I made virtually the same ride for 5 weeks out of 6.
We're heading down to Tucson next Saturday, that should be a scorcher.

Trip, you can send some of those business cards my way when you receive them. Great idea and they will come in handy. Nice to carry in the bike.
Saturday morning the wife and I left for a 3 day ride. About 75 miles into our ride we stopped at a scenic overlook and a 08 blue and silver nomad just like mine pulled in. We talked for a while and I gave him a paper that I copied from TC (TC hope you don't mind) Anyhow he never heard of KAWANOW before and sounded interested.
That was the only nomad I saw in 613 miles.
