My Wife and I are going to do Deal's Gap - The Dragon's Tail. We have never been and would like accomidation advice. Looking for feedback on where you stayed and what did you think of it. We are only interested on accomodations please? Can you try to post as much info related to the place you liked so that we can find it please? Thanks

I live close enough that I just head there from home for a ride frequently. It's only about 1 hr away. But here is a start for your research.

We always stay in Townsend Tn. More laid back, no where near the trafic that's in Sevierville,Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg. But if you want to go to there it's a nice ride over to them on 321. It's easy to get to the dragon from there, Just ride the Foothills Parkway turn left at the lake (watch for speed traps around the lake) you'll be on the dragon before you know it.

Have fun, planning a trip there in Oct.

Microtel in Maggie Valley, NC.

I now some who have stayed at the Kickstand Lodge. May be more rustic than what you prefer. Check it out here. http://kickstandlodge.com/

the closest hotel is the microtel in Robbinsville NC. Its clean inexpensive and has great resturant just up the hill. It is in a DRY county so you cant buy beer. The parking lot is full of bikes. I have stayed there 3 years in a row and always eat dinner at Lynns at the top of the hill.

You might want to google Iron Horse Motorcycle Resort, its about 12 miles farther and is strickly motorcycles, but not all the cabins have individual bathrooms.

We also stayed in Maggie Valley, at a Ramada Inn. Close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and rte 19 is a good 1 hour warm-up to the Gap. You can also check out the Applecover Inn for a little more homey lodging, also in Maggie Valley. Remember, - the Kickstand Lodge is a mostly campground, with small cabins also available. Good folks, there, too.

I have friends who stayed at the Clarketon Motel and liked it. It's right on Rt. 19 also.

I would also reccommend Maggie Valley - it has restaurants and you can go to the Wheels Thru Time Motorcycle Museum (worth the money). Maggie Valley is also close to Cherokee and they have a Harrah's Casino there. There are also some hotels there in Cherokee. I spent a week up there this summer. Have fun

PS Be sure to ride over to Asheville - my home town - and visit the Biltmore House

We always stay in Bryson City at the Ridge Top Motel. Small family run motel, very biker friendly and $45/night for motorcycles.

Hmmm....I stayed at Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort. I stayed there several nights and loved it. Everything is catered to the motorcyclist. Even the rooms have hangers for your helmet and jackets.

The only thing is you'll need to get reservations. They're booked much of the time.
