It's open for everybody....so come on over if you get a chance. I will say that if you're planning on staying, get reservations NOW!!!! It can be a bear finding a place to stay cause the island fills up in a HURRY!!!! As far as what goes on... typical rally!!

Hey Matt - I heard a rumor that they don't allow colors at this rally. It that true? I do't mind taking mine off it that's the rule. Just want to know.

Actually Hollywood....Last year when I was there there were colors everywhere. I was kind of taken aback at how all the mixed colors were actually getting along. I saw everything from Hells Angels to Bandidos to local mixes. There was a pretty good show of force in law enforcement, but I didn't see anybody getting out of hand at all!!!! BUTTTTTT...to be honest, I wasn't there at night when things would normally get a rowdy. You kind of have to watch were you are in Galveston anyway...since there are some bad elements there, but for the most part, it was just a fun loving croud. Most people are one of two places....either the Strand or cruising the Sea Wall. A lot coming and going between the two....but that was where most of the crouds were. There were TONs of bikes to look at....and if you didn't get your fill of riding in, it would be your own fault!! You can always tell the "first timers" (don't ask me how I know).... They're used to waving at passing motorcyclist...well...there are SO damn many bikes out there that you would be riding one handed all day!!! LOL! After a while, you just give up! LOL!
Anyway...it's a good croud....and there's trouble there if you go looking for it, but for the most part it's all pretty fun. I also think there is more bike stuff at the Convention Center than at the booths at the Strand. IMHO.... You coming up?

My wife and I are thinking about it but instead of a hotel, we are looking at renting a condominium. We do this when we go to South Padre with the family because overall it's less expensive. Anyone interested in going in, send me a PM. It tends to be a whole lot cheaper than hotel rooms and the amenities just as good. Matt, bro, this would definitely save you some $$$.

I just made my reservations - I will be staying at Moody Gardens. $189 per night - kinda expensive but you get 2 concert tickets and parkingVIP, shirts, pins, etc. I checked Expedia and the rooms around town were reasonable on Thursday but then the price for the same room triples on Fri and Sat. - That's Bull$hit. When you average it out this was a better deal than even La Quinta (which was sold out). Moody Gardens shows sold out online but you can still get rooms if you call direct. The phone number is 1-888-388-8484 in case anyone is interested.
let's all plan on meeting up if possible - name the time and place - I'll be there!!!

Jeff...You & Tiny are just plain WRONG!!!! LOL!!! Actually, I already have a place down there. It's a little rough, but it'll work for me and the wife & probably Greg & his wife. You met him in Palestine. Long story short, I've got a house in Galveston that we're restoring. Being that it's in the process of being restored, it'll mostly serve as a place to sleep and clean up. Other than that, it's kind of bare at the moment....or at least it was the last time I was there. Anyway...thanks for the thought on saving $$$$ And Hollywood, you're right, it's BULLSSSSHIIT all the way, but it is, what it is. That's why I was trying to let everybody know to make reservations and such early. It will fill up down there, but there are still some deals to be had. It sounds like you got a pretty good one!! I'm sure we'll all plan some more when it gets a little closer. I've already put in for the time off...so I shouldn't have any issues taking off at that time. I know that there is some good riding over towards San Luis Pass and such towards Freeport....or the other way across the ferry.... so I'm sure we'll be able to do something...maybe plan some good seafood at Caseys!!!!! For those who don't know, it shares a kitchen with Guydos...which is known in that area for great seafood. Caseys is a less expensive, "regular" class place where Guydos is more upscale!! I myself have NO problem paying less for the same great food, just because I only have 1 fork on the table!!! LOL!!
Trip...I hope you can make it down bud!!! Be good to see ya again!

Well.... not sure how the LSR is going to be now........ Getting power and roads restored in time will be cutting it VERY close!!!!!!!! News report this morning stated it might take up to 7 weeks to just get power to certain parts of the Island! From "here say" my house in Galveston is still there w/ only some water damage to the bottom floor boards. It might be a while before I can get in there to even check it out. I'm certainly not going to get into the I45 Parking Lot to find out!!!!
Man.... I sure was looking forward to the LSR this year.... I'll keep my fingers crossed that they still have it!!

I'm not sure who all is planning on going, but like Mike, you better CALL!!!! There's a LOT of damage around there, so some places won't be ready in time. The question I keep asking myself...as well as others, is where the hell is everybody going to ride??? Last year they had what...200K people or there abouts? I-45 is the ONLY way in and out of Galveston right now. San Luis Pass & Port Bolivar roads are GONE!!!! Google Earth has an updated Satellite imagery and I've looked at all other options in and out of Galveston, and there are sections where the roads are just gone!! Sooooo.... you've got what... at even 100K people, I-45 will turn into a parking lot! It's going to be one MAD house!!!! Even though my house came out ok, I highly doubt I'll be making it this year.

I'm still up in the air as to whether to come or not. I haven't cancelled my reservations yet (Moody Gardens). Thought I would wait a little while before deciding. Anybody heard about Moody Gardens and the extent of damage to that area.
I really really want to come. Seems like every time I am gonna get to meet some of you guys- something happens.
Spoke to Cappy the other day. He called me cuz he was in McAllen. His Nat. Guard unit got called up for hurricane relief. So he's up there with you guys. PM me - I have his number - maybe you guys could track him down and take him to dinner or just say hi....
With the extent of the destruction, and the time that cleanup and recovery will take I can't see this year being much of an event; and am very surprised they didnt try to relocate it.
I'm scheduled to be off that weekend, so I'm up for a ride through the countryside if one comes about.

Hey Guys & Gals....sorry.... been off for a few days. I don't know if I'll be able to attend our "Mini LSR" due to family constraints, but I'll help set up one.
I know that Galveston is in shambles...still...and as I've said before (and a couple of other people too) I highly doubt the LSR will be enjoyable this year since there's NO place to ride. For those who haven't been to Galveston or experienced I45 w/ bumper to bumper traffic... trust me when I tell you it's NO fun. I45 has been getting backed up from people heading to the beach for years!!! And that was with other roads still an option for people to get in and out of the Island. NOW that I45 is the ONLY true way in and out....it's going to be a parking lot. And that's just GETTING there....... so IMHO, I think a separate "Mini LSR" is a good option.
You've got a couple of places to meet, all those places have great riding areas in their surrounding areas.
Thirsty Parrot - http://www.thethirstyparrot.com/
Chapel Chill - http://www.ridethechill.com/Location.htm
Yankee Tavern - http://yankeestavern.com/wordpress/?page_id=22
Yall take a look and let me know what you think about these and I'll see what ride maps I can get going. I've been to Chapel Chill & Thirsty Parrot, so I know riding areas for those, but I know Mike has been to Yankees so I'm sure he can input so good riding area with that one. Anyway..... Y'all tell me what ya think and I'll see about getting something started.....
Later Folks!

Hey Guys/Gals.... I heard on the radio today that they've officially pushed the LSR back to Dec 11-14th.
Who knows....Galveston just MIGHT be ready by then!!!
"Spork" Joe Sharp is working up a Talimena run leaving Houston Saturday Nov 1 returning Nov 3rd. Riding to Broken Bow, OK. and basing there for riding the 2nd day. Unless my dear wife changes her mind, I'm going to make that trip. Hopefully there'll be some fall color still left by then.
Planning on lunch Saturday in Jefferson. Maybe some of our East Texas Nomad kinfolk would like to meet up? Just a thought.
I will be there on the 25th and 26th. Leaving my house on Sat and staying the night in Mena and coming back home Sun morning.

LW, let us know when and where you think you will be having lunch and an approximate time.
Copied from GCVROC Group on Yahoo:
Ok, I have some responses and the Fall Foliage tour 2008 is set to depart Saturday, November 1, 2008 and we will return Monday, November 3, 2008.
We will ride to Broken Bow on Saturday and depart from 1221 Ivy Ave., Deer Park, Texas at 0800. Plan will be to go about 100 miles and fill-up. I will be doing mostly speed limits since I care not to get a prize award from the fine Troopers that will be enjoying the weather.
We will stop for lunch in Jefferson, Texas at the Hamburger Store. This will be about 1:30pm so I recommend a snack at the first stop.
I had intended to take us out 87 most of the way but since it is getting darker sooner I think it would be safer to just take 59 to Jefferson. We will stay in Broken Bow Saturday and Sunday at a Motel there. Then, after breakfast, we will hit the trail back to Houston on Monday.
FYI - Mileage to Jefferson - 247miles.
Mileage from Houston to Broken Bow - 360 miles.
This will not be a bun burner and everyone is welcome to join in.
Let me know if you have any questions. I hope that some of you can make it. It should be a BLAST!

WE WILL MOVE FORWARD IN GALVESTON WITH THE LONESTAR RALLY
WITH NEW DATES
DECEMBER 11 - 14
Dear Riders,
It is unfortunate and beyond my control that I inform you that the dates of the Lone Star Rally must be changed to Dec 11-14th. We were contacted by City officals today and told that, in spite of great effort on their part, downtown will not be ready in time for the regulary scheduled dates. We are sorry for the inconvience but it is agreed by all that safety is our first and foremost concern and after touring the property with City officals yesterday it was agreed that it would not be up to our standards for presentation to our community in time. We hope you'll understand and adjust your plans accordingly. This hurricane effected everyone. Perhaps its best we give everyone a few more weeks to get back on their feet.
Yours in Success,
Ron Limbock
President- Lone Star Rally, Inc.
