2009 1700 Nomad 53000 miles. Sometimes when I push the starter button to crank the engine everything but the odometer resets to zero. It doesn’t do it every time I start it! I had the battery checked at the local auto parts store and its ok! My first thought Was that the battery was going bad until I had it checked!

That is the usual sign the battery is on its way out.
How old is your battery ?

You need a new battery.

The Battery is probably 3 years old. Had it tested and the tech said it was good!

Check the battery terminals are clean and the connections are tight.
Let us know what fixes the problem.

Ok I left the trickle charger off the battery for about a week to see if the bike would crank and if the battery would be dead but it fired up. A little sluggish but it crank! I did this three times and on the third try it wouldn’t crank. I hooked my charger to it, and in about 5 minutes it’s was fully charged. I heard a noise coming from the front side of the battery box next to the fuse box when I tried it again and found it to be the starter relay! So I think I’ll have it checked out to see if it’s bad!

Replace the battery before you get stranded somewhere.
Instruments resetting when starting is a symptom of a battery going bad.

You saying you heard the noise from the starter relay while cranking the bike or just when you turned on the ignition? The starter relay should not make any noise with just the ignition turned on. Also, an loaded battery can show full charge but have NO capacity for any load. That usually indicates a break somewhere between the six cells in the battery. The voltage can show 12V across the electrolyte, but it cannot carry any real load. This just happened in my Dakota pickup.

I would also check the voltage drop across the battery when cranking. With a fully charged healthy battery, connect a voltmeter across the battery terminals. At rest it should read at least 12V. Turn on the ignition and it should still read close to 12V or just over. Crank the bike and the voltage should not drop below 11 volts. If it does show less than 11V when cranking it could also be the starter causing to high resistance.
