In looking thru the commo section, the last post on this was 6 years ago. Looking for oped's on current systems. Just need to be able to receive and affirmatively respond to orders from my wife while 2 up. Looking at Sena - 10 system? Bought a system from a guy on CL a while back. Tested it before buying.....standing next to the bike.....ERROR!!! Worked great that way, couldn't hear a d_ _ m thing at 15 mph or above. Trying to live that down and get a working system! HELP

The Sena SMH10 system works great for me....I recieve phone calls, can listen to music, I get directions from my Garmin plus, My Fobo TPMS warnings come over loud and clear over them headset. Pairing with other Senas ought to be a piece of cake....which the SMH10 does easily. You can also communicate with other sena users on the road also....
However, you can look under Motorcycle wireless comms and theres alot to choose from....and Sena ranks toward the top. There are other systems that work just as good and are cheaper though.
If your having trouble with the Sena, your software might need upgrading if its a older set.... but there shouldn't be a problem pairing them.
Check out the Vids On setting up VIA UTube....

SMH10 Updating the software was not to bad of a task for me. Went well. My full face helmet Cheap ( LS2 brand) and the wind screen. I can make calls and receive calls very well at highway speeds. Used the Com system once , had my 3/4 helmet on. It worked great. Once I was shown how to pair it. Thanks Smokier. We could carry on a conversation as we road, Seemed to work well at a distance as I tried to maintain pace towing a trailer on some pretty curvy roads. Both helmets have the Boom Mic installed.

I've had a Scala Team Set for about 8-9 years and it works great for what I need. I'm not concerned about getting calls or music, just need for my wife and I to be able to hold a conversation. We both wear 3/4 helmets with boom mics.

Yes, if you got a Sena SMH10, when you pr. it with another, which is easy....just have to do it as they say....pairing mode....anyway, once paired, you can talk right beside each other or talk up to a mile/miles or so....
I use linux, so, I don't use windows, so, I can not update mine....5 years and doing fine....without updates....
Plus, if you have some riding buddies, you can pr. with them, too, seperately, if wanted or needed.

These you can pr. with up to a small group of folks, then you can assign another group, or so many singles....they are quite useful....

My wife and I have been using the Sena 10 for about 5-6 years or so and they work fine whether we are on two bikes up to about 1/2 mile apart, or on the same bike. I have mine on a 1/2 shell helmet and she uses a modular FF. She hears me fine despite the wind at highway speeds, and it works for communication, phone calls, and bluetooth for music paired with our phones. We did find that keeping speaking in a softer voice directly into the mouthpiece instead of yelling into it from further away works much better at minimizing distortion and static.

Another Sena SMH10 user pairing here (or hear) as well. 6 years old? One battery is starting to show signs of age... We will do them again.

What specifically is the complaint on your current Sena's? Please describe scenarios, etc.

Ride safe,
Smokier

Oh, DragonLady, you are awesome!, which distribution of Linux? I'm a Ubuntu man myself...

I've heard good about the Sena units. I have an Autocom wired system on my BMW R1200RT and it works very well, and has Bluetooth as well.

My preference is the comm system only for talking to my wife/passenger, GPS link for directions, music maybe. But NO phone calls ever. Phones are much to pervasive to me, and I don't like anything interfering with my riding, especially a friggin phone call. I will make a phone call when not riding, off the bike, but NEVER while riding.
