Not wanting to start anything but have an 2005 Nomad and want to get a newer bike for my last run. How do the seats compare between the Voyager and Vaquero. The Nomad is great and can put a lot of miles on the OEM before my butt needs a rest.

Can't compare the two but I know for a large frame man the stock Voyager seat sucks. The u shape seat was totally useless for me. More like a edgy. Now that RDL got done with it I can ride 10 hours a day before I need the rest my butt any.

When Kaw went from 1600 to 1700 they shortened the frame and the seats are totally different from the 1600.
I'm 6'5" with a 36 inch inseam and there is no way I could get comfortable on the 1700s so I bought a Victory in 2014.

Try and find one to test ride.

I went from an 1600 to a 1700 voyager with no problem. The stock seat does SUCK!!!
I had a RDL on my nomad so I knew I wanted one on the voyager. First I found a cheap Mustang seat and it really wasn’t bad at all but now I have an RDL and it’s fantastic.
I’ve heard a lot of people say “there just to cramped for me”. I’m 6’ with a 34” inseam and I’m not cramped at all. With that said the passenger compartment does look small so 2up riding may be quite cramped especially if you use a backrest.

Your both right, It is family/ partnership and it makes for a happy family. I envy you two.
I / We are now down to a 1 bike family here, I miss the 2 bike family.

Stock seats can be shaved locally with an upholsterer and save some money. And still use the stock seat cover. I paid 60 bucks. Happy guy after. And no shipping

I rode a 2007 nomad with the stock seat for 10 years and like you i could ride all day but when i bought the voyager the seat was terrible. The foam is probably the same on both bikes coming from the factory but it was the shape of the voyager that hurts the tailbone. The back of the seat has a wedge shape to it and puts pressure on the tailbone kicking in the pain in about 4 hours. I bought an ultimate seat and all's better now.

I had the tailbone issue with my Voyager and I installed a Grasshopper backrest and now can ride all day long with no pain.

RDL baby, Russel Day Long. While completely off track from the stock seat discussion of a 1600 vs a 1700, the RDL on a 1700 is the way to go. As for the 1700 itself, the stock was not bad, the Mustang was not good, the Corbin was OK, the shaved and gel inserted stock was better, however, the RDL rocks!

I went to a Corbin seat for my Vaquero. They sit lower and further back allowing for a bit more leg room and your feet get to the ground better ( I am only 5'9) and the adjustable driver backrest works great too. There is also a slot in the seat for the rear passenger backrest, and the driver portion of the seat is pretty wide and flat giving better thigh support. I have done 300+ mile days on it with no discomfort whatsoever.
