With the rally just a couple of months out I figured everybody getting there routes planned out, I know I am.
So I thought I’d see how everybody getting there, what routes your taking, so if anybody want to meet up and ride in together they can.
Trip’s trailering to my house and we’re leaving Saturday morning from Piedmont OK (on the bikes). If there anybody interested in riding with us let me.

Yep.... Trip DID buy a Harley. Now it's time to stop every 50 miles... eat and smoke a cigarette. Then talk for two more hours and then get 50 more miles down the road. 100 mile days are wonderful...:lmao:

I won't be joining you, as I am starting my trip to the rally on June 8th.
The plan is Home(Indiana), Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado(2 Days), New Mexico, Arizona (North Rim Grand Canyon), Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, back into Wyoming then to Custer South Dakota.
Ride home, Up to North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois then Home.
No Interstates, all back roads(small highways).

We will leave Fort Smith headed west on I-40 for about 100 miles to Okemah.
Then go through Guthrie to avoid OKC. West to Watonga then turn north.
It's 400 miles to Medicine Lodge KS. Probably stop there. If we feel like it we'll keep going.
We'll take US 281 to Great Bend then north on 183 to Ansley NE.
Then take NE hwy 2 through the sand hills to Alliance NE. Then 385 to Custer.

Day one: Marietta, GA to Benton, IL. Camping at Benton KOA
Day two: Benton to Kansas City, MO. Camping at Kansas City East/Oak Grove KOA
Day three: KC to Sioux City, SD. Camping at Sioux City North KOA
Day four: Sioux City to Custer, SD.
Days one and four will be all interstate. Too long a day if I do surface roads on those days. Depending on how I feel, how early I get started, etc. other days I will either do interstate or surface roads.

Kawhead and Sue are coming to my N GA house few days before leaving for Custer.
Planning to spend first night around Edwardsville, Ill, or somewhere East/North of St Louis which will be 500+ miles and that's about 1/3 of miles to Custer.
Probably cross Big Muddy at Hannibal, MO....from there don't have a clue right now.
spending 2nd night around Sioux City, perhaps meeting up with Coach if it fit his plans.....3rd day on to Custer

Okay here is my preliminary route to the rally. Not the exact route because google limits you to so many way points. Plus extra days in Colorado. 10 days of riding. So as long as nothing changes I'll see you all in Custer. And We will be there on the 17th now, so you've been warned.

Plan is to leave on the 8th. After the discussion we had and some more research, decided didn't want to be around Yellowstone that close to the holiday. So flipped the route and leaving earlier. That way we are home and off the roads before the 4th holiday.

You are getting close to (and missing) one of the consistently top 10 rated motorcycle roads in the country - Beartooth Highway (pass). US 212 from Yellowstone to Red Lodge MT.

Ya I know, I only have so much time and was trying to figure out how to include it. I will be on the section from Towers Junction and Cook city till it turns off at 296 to head to Cody.
296 (Crandall RD/Dead Indian Hill rd)also looks like a awesome road to ride. So I will take what I can get.

296 is also known as Chief Joseph Hwy and it is a good ride - although road was full of tar snakes last time we were there (2014?). Hopefully they've done some work on it since then. We're going to be coming through Yellowstone and coming out at Cody. We'll be riding 296 and then the rest of 212 which doesn't include the short section that you'll be riding. :)

Beartooth is a beautiful ride. I also wanted to ride the Chief Joseph hiway, going the wrong direction at the time. Rode from Red Lodge to Cook City headed toward Yellowstone, crater lake and the redwoods.
Now that I think of it, that's why I missed Custer last time, just couldn't do both.

That sounds like a good route. I am trying to catch Idaho and stay away from as much of the tourist traffic in Yellowstone as possible. As my route kinda circles around the main park.

Yes. We are touring Grand Teton and Yellowstone the week before Custer. So, we'll spend the night in Cody and ride 296 and Beartooth to Red Lodge. Don't have a stop planned after that, but won't do the whole 500 miles to Custer that day. That wouldn't give us enough time to stop and enjoy the sites.
