Took my first long ride today (NO LAUGHING), about 250 miles. These old bones just ain't what they use to be. The day was cool with a slight overcast which made for some nice riding---to bad it had to be all slab. I switched my air hawk on and off to try and change the hotspots, and found that with the air hawk, the buffeting was worst. Sat me up a little too high, but it adds comfort. What are you going to do? ::) http://s2.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

yep Mustang seats are very good. I thought with the air hawk you barely have any air in it for it to work right, just enough to keep it from bottoming out.

I talked to a guy last week that had one of these seats on his Honda, and loves it.

Had a mustang seat and never liked it. Had it for 10,000 miles my rear hurt just as bad as the day I bought it. Wife loved it. Oh well. I guess that I have a special seat.

Wish there were some more pictures to see what they look like. What ones I saw looked good and looked comfortable.

I think they are still working on it, The guy I spoke to had 2 seats so far, one on his old bike and one on his current bike and he said they are very comfortable.
Id just like to make sure it feels good before I lay out the money.

OK, here's my secret. I had my gut liposuctioned and put in my butt cheeks. Most comfortable ride I've ever experienced.

I wondered why you were sitting so tall in the saddle! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I have the stock seat and have 33,000 miles on my 06 in just over a year. I frequently go 700+ miles in a day. I find it really helps if you just stretch your muscles now and then while riding. Every 50 miles or so I will kick my legs alternately forward and out to the side 15 or 20 times. Probably looks odd, but so what. I also slide up on to the front to the rear seat several times a day and ride there for a mile or two. Beyond that having highway pegs and shifting my leg position throughout the day really helps. Without doing those things I'd be uncomfortable at 120 miles or so. By stretching as I ride I typically run until my yellow gas light comes on at 170 - 190 miles, fill it up, and head out again. Advil helps too. I take some to start the day and typically agian at lunch and late afternoon on a 700 mile day.

Gas stops are also a good time to stretch or take a walk.Just a minute or two walking every stop can make a big difference over a days ride.

My problem seems to be with the other end. After a couple of hours of riding (doesn't matter if it is continuous or not), my forhead hurts and has a red mark across it. I don't understand cause the helmet seems to fit good (open-face), but something just ain't right.

I have the same problem with a couple of helmets I wear. One of them, a Bell Drifter, would get so uncomfortable that I took my thumb and mashed down some of the foam at the point of the "hot spot". Seems to have taken care of the issue.

I find that I don't have much room to move around on the Mustang seat. Hey, I'm big-boned, okay? http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif So I am basically sitting in the same position all day long. I need to get off the bike and walk around a bit every few hours. I figure I am off the bike to fuel it about every 1.5-2 hours, and just walking around some at the gas station works pretty good for me. Even with the Mustang, it starts to bother me after a while.

I had my stock seat modified by Spencer's, but it's still not as comfortable as a Corbin solo that I also picked up. I did two 250-mile rides a week apart, one with each seat, and I prefer the Corbin. It does lock you into one position also, but that was fine for me - on the stocker, I had to move around a lot to avoid pain. I'm not even quite to the breakin mileage of the Corbin yet either, so it should get even better.

I contacted ultimateseats and they stated that the seats for the Nomad 1600 should be available by mid October of this year. They are in the design phase. I think I'll have to give them a try with the 14 day full refund return policy. No defects required, if you don't like the seat they will give you a RA number and you pay the shipping to return it. Not bad. I don't think Mustang, Corbin, or Saddleman have this policy.

It's really a shame, because a seat is a big $$ investment and once you buy one, you're stuck with it. You usually don't know if it's comfortable until it's already on your bike. The seat builders should have some kind of a demo program or a no hassle refund policy.

I have my highway pegs mounted so I can ride with my foot/feet on them, or have my heel on the floorboards, and my toes on the pegs. Being able to use different positions allows me to be more comfortable. I do have the Mustang with drivers backrest, and think it is a fantastic seat. One of the biggest riding comforts I use when the weather heats up is beaded seat covers. It may not sound comfortable sitting on a pile of wooden beads, ??? but they are AWESOME, especially on those 95+ degree days. They let the air circulate under your butt, and that's coooooool http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I just put sheepskin on the seats and went for a 125 mile ride on sunday, now it wasn't super hot but it was humid. When I returned home I didn't any swamp-ass. Still in the experiential mode with it.

Ive done a few long days in the saddle myself. Recently I did two 530 mile days. These weren't as bad as other shorter days Ive done in the past. I did all the tricks that you guys already suggested and that does help. The biggest thing I found was the temperature, if it gets really hot it doesn't matter what I do, I get sore. Cooler days seem much more bearable on long trips.

We just did 360 miles on Tuesday. My butt and legs were killing me when I got home. I have the stock seat. It is good for about 150 to 200 miles but after that it is torture.
Had a Mustang on my 650 Yamaha and that was as bad as the stocker for me.
Lookin' to get a seat off Ebay to play with the foam and see if I can make the stocker better.

Update on Air Hawk---I took almost all the air out so when I sat on it really flattened out. It was great for the ride home. I could have gone a couple of hundred more miles with no problems. Very little butt burn. I would highly recommend one for longer rides, just don't overfill the air.
