I buy Amsoil synthetic motorcycle oil. Yes there is a difference between motorcycle oil and regular engine oil. The oil formulated for motorcycles does not have friction modifiers because they will cause problems with the wet clutches in these bikes. Do a search for Oil on this site and you will find a few threads on the subject.

From what I understand, you can use a quality auto oil, just check the little circle on the bottle and make sure it doesn't have friction modifers (energy conserving). I use Castrol Syntech blend 10w40. I change about every 3000 miles.

Redline fully sythetic or mobile 1 4t racing fully synth are my choices. I put fully synth in after 2k miles in my ride.

I use a brand name, Shell , Castrol, Esso etc. automobile oil, 10w40 in cold weather and 20w50 in the hot weather. Ive done this in most of my bikes over the years and have never had any problems. However Ive noticed sometimes one brand of oil makes the bike shift a little smoother than others, but it is a very slight difference.
