Just FYI....the reason there have been passwords in the past is due to some information in the riding boards that members didn't want to give to everyone such as cell numbers, home phone numbers, etc.

Oopps that makes 2 people in MS who's feelings I've hurt. My sister-n-law who lives in MS wanted to know if me and hubby (her brother) want fly out to Las Vegas with them next year...when I told her 'no - cause we're saving to go on the bikes to Custer SD'. She purkered up and said 'well.....and then abrutly ended her phone call with me - said she had to go.....after making some remark about couldn't I just ride on the back of my husbands bike to save money.....I told her she wouldn't understand if I tried to explain (she don't even ride pillion). BTW Hubby fine with my answer to his sister.

Hey yeah I'll watch MS threads too man! I was born and raised in old Memphis TN - mom and pop passed away years ago-one sister left in Memphis so don't venture that way as much as used to.

Modified to Add: We used to go to Tuepelo on the bikes and spend the night once and a while. Haven't done that in awhile hubbie was just talking about us doing that again soon. Maybe so Nomaders might want to meet up at Tupelo sometimes. ;)

I voted NO. My NO was meant for an extra password.

I support that one should have to login to post and have access for reasons previously stated on personal information as we do on this board.

I foresee that using PMs for sending personal information (ie Cell Numbers)to all that may be interested when coordinating to be labor intensive and defeats the purpose of sharing the information needed in setting up events on the board.

I voted no, because the passwords just give a false sense of a security that really does not exist on these sites. All our private numbers etc. are vulnerable, even with a password. I posted some long discussion about this in the Hooligan's room, but nobody else can read it because of the password.

One of my main points was this: I've got a dispose-a-phone so I don't mind too much if the number is compromised. I'm only out maybe $20~$30 if I gotta dump it & get a new one. Some of you guys have Big Bux invested with iPhones and stuff like that, and phone nos. that are important to your families and businesses etc. I'm telling you that a password is no protection for you guys. Even if we erase those posts about phone numbers right now, the info is still compromised and will be indeffinately. I hope you all don't mind.

Very little in cyberspace is 100% secure. There's just varying degrees of false security. Maybe if we all had VPN connections to the forum, but that's not going to happen. Just be careful of what you share on here, in the public areas.

Passwording has been there in the past not to make everything secure, but just to segment the riding groups. It looks like by way the voting is going that passwording has been an inconvenience.

What I meant was not that someone might hack this board. Most security breaches are much more simple than that. Nearly everyone that accessed the password protected boards and viewed the private info there now has that info stored on their local machine or machines (probably 3 or 4 different machines in my case) and we've all got stuff on our cell phones too. If any one of those machines or phones gets in the wrong hands the "secure" info is all compromised. (Stuff in PM's too of course.)

Not that I'm worried about this myself. I didn't put anything up there that it would hurt me to have made public, and I certainly don't think people are "out to get us". I just wouldn't want anybody to think their info is really secure here because we have a password. It's a little more secure, that's true, but never really secure.

I didn't read all 4 pages, so don't know what has been said that might have changed my mind, but I like the passwords. My computer remembers the password and I don't have to remember it, so that's not a big deal.

I like having it on the group I go to because it keeps it tidy and on topic. I look and see how many posts there are, and I know when a new one comes. When a new one comes I go and read it. It is always on topic and has to do with a ride in our group area. I like that.

Without a password, it would become a bunch of funny shout outs from other members from other areas to members in this area etc.

I like knowing that when a new post shows up, it's about a ride in our area, not a funny picture from someone across the country to a member in our area.

It appears that I'm way in the minority on this poll, but that what I like about a password.

The poll was not specific to the Hooligans, but your statement of "Maybe it's time to leave? That's why Hooligans was started in the first place-right?" seems to indicate that some west coasters are unhappy with this board and want to do their own thing, which y'all are certainly free to do. But I could be wrong about that and might have misinterpreted your statement just as you misinterpreted Matt's.

LW, SoCal Hooligans is strictly a local Riding Club. if you visit there you'll see links to KawaNOW all over it. I am the CPD of KawaNOW and only formed SoCal Hooligans with Trip's knowledge and endorsement, so local non-Nomad owners I ride with can communicate with each other on a web forum and post ride info.
My #1 loyalty is to KawaNOW which is a web-based Kawasaki Nomad Owners Group.

Regarding Tomk, he wasn't himself last night and overreacted to something that he misinterpreted to begin with. Jussmatt is one of the coolest dudes on KawaNOW and I know he's a big enough guy to understand the situation. I hope we can all let this go and take it for what it was....

You make several very good points that I hadn't thought about when voting for no password. After reading your post, I agree with you, I do like the ability to visit a thread that has only information pertaining to the topic without having to scroll through a bunch of non related stuff. I'd change my vote if I could.
Even knowing it wouldn't change anything more than my doing what I believed was right. And to me that does matter. ;)

Exactly. I said this myself the other day. Folks, we may be buddies and sometimes the BS gets a little deep in here, but someone new to the scene may not realize that.

I think we all (yes, I'm guilty too) need to be mindful of this when posting. Maybe we should ask our intrepid leader for a debate forum where people can take their heated discussions and leave the technical/travel/vendor/general/safety forums for Nomad or at least motorcycle-related stuff?

Differences of opinion exist whenever there's 2 or more people involved. Discussion and debate isn't inherently bad, in the right place. I'm not saying we need to all hold hands and sing Kumbaya, but some of these threads lately are downright embarrassing.

I refer people to this site all the time, and so do many others. What kind of first impression are these guests forming? Maybe we need moderators to keep things at least "closer" to being on-topic? I don't know. Anybody else have any ideas?

Let's continue to make KawaNOW the resource for Nomad enthusiasts, and leave the bickering and tantrums on the playground.

Did I already post on this thread? It's all so confusing I just can't remember!

IMO (and that's a big size 5 IMO) we only need passwords if we're going to post personal info on the boards.

I do not think this is a good idea even with passwords.

We can have an e-mail list for this, and when someone gets well known enough that the local RL feels comfortable enough to include them, he can just put them on the list.

That way the general ride info for each region is available for members from other regions. I see no reason a member from Texas shouldn't go on a ride in New Mexico, but with the current system he might never know about it unless someone in the SW group thinks to invite him.

Passwords made it ever so slightly more secure, and ever so slightly more private..... It allowed us to post phone #'s etc with a nice little false sense of security!!??!! It also let the regional leader/moderator keep tabs on who had access should the need arise.... It never bothered me having it passworded and I HATE CHANGE DAMMIT!!! LOL
