I do not have a manual for my 2002 Vulcan, the FI light came on, does anybody know what that light means? I also have a loss of power, any ideas?

I have a 2007 fuel injected factory service manuel for the 1600 Nomad. The system on the 1500 FI may be similar. The trouble service codes stored in the ECU may be observed by reading the blinking FI light after you have removed the seat and attached a jumper wire from ground to the self-diagnosis terminal. These trouble codes point you in the possible of trouble, perhaps a loose wire, or bad sensor. The process is much the same as most automobile systems. With some problems the ECU will allow only one clylinder to run or make other changes to protect the engine but still allow you to limp in to get repairs, hense the loss of power.

Unless the problem is easy reconized by a inspection of wiring etc. you will at least need the factory service manuel to interpert the codes. Hope this is of some help.

There may be a common problem that others are aware of that could be a easy fix.

Gday guys, great site. The fi light on my 07 nomad stays on after the initial prime -up but goes off after engine has fired. The dealer says there are no fault codes recorded and nothing out of the ordinary with the engine or electrics. Bike starts and runs like a dream but it has suffered a cut in fuel economy (roughly 50km's less in range---30 miles in yank speak lol ).fi light still remains on. Anyone got any clues ?.... or should i just change my service mechanics.

Yup all the lights should come on right as you turn the key on and everthing except the Odo window should go out.... after it fires up.

I'd change mechanics SOON!

Changing mechanics is sounding better and better. They hauled in a new fangdangle laptop to hook up to my ride...said it would sort things out for sure ...hmmm right.
To it's credit it picked up a fault in the speed sensor so they replaced it. However the fi light persisted in staying on after prime up and i still have crap fuel economy !
I have mentioned several possibilities (from this forum) but werent interested.
The mech's say that the light staying on after initial prime up is normal according to their service manual....my owners manual says it should go out after prime up... as it did when i first got the nad.
So, a very frustrating problem that the dealers/mech's dont have a clue about how to fix..and me here looking at riding across aus in march (again ) with a with a fuel issue....hmmmm...new mech's are lookin better and better.
