Front Venom X AM 41 160/180B16 Rear Venom X AM42 160/80B16 - so far really good. Have 10000 km on rear now and it's hadly worn - stock tire was gone at 10000 km. Was going to put Metzlers on but none were available when I needed a rear!

I thought ME880s were really great tires. What do you not like about them?

I don't know what he doesn't like about them but I can tell you what I don't like.
They are the noisiest tires I have ever had on a bike. In the turns they growl and it annoys the hell out of me. My buddy who has a BMW1200LT has the same problem with his.

I will be interested in what you end up with and your feedback. My Rolling Stones on my 2003 are driving me nuts but I want to be sure I don't sink money into more noise.

I really like the way the 880s handle in the corners. my only coplaint was they were noisy in the corners and they just didnt feel stable at high speeds. 85-95mph so i thought i would go with a differnt type of rubber see what happens

I just put on a 880 on the rear. I could hear a noise comming from the rear as I was going down the hwy., I thought it was the diff at first, then realized it had to be the tire. Also they don't list a 170/16 for the nad, so I had to go with a 150/16. Had no choice at the time, only tire in stock, Bdog

I'm on my second set of Metz and I'll be lQQk'n elsewhere for my next tire, which will be soon. However, I felt going from a stone to Metz was like butter, but like TC said, they are noisy.

They handle twistys alright, and they stick. I appreciate the confidence the tire gives me in the middle of a turn. Although, a long sweeping, but somewhat tight turn at like 85MPH gives me some wallow. You can ride through it though.

I think the biggest draw back to the M880's is you'll feel a slight vibration starting into a tight turn, and those tires will make enough noise to make you wanna check the torque on your axles at the next stop.

It isn't like we need additional noise from our howling, snorting, clacking, hissing & sing'n Nomads do we?

FYI - I dropped down a size (can't remember) from stock on the rear with this last Metz. It lowered me about 1/2 inch. Recently, we packed up for the Western Rally riding 2-up. Being a little hot into a turn now and then, I found my pipes dragging before my floorboards. Dan Lund didn't believe it, but couldn't explain the missing chrome? And don't even think it's a weight problem. We are Miller Light

I'm going back to a stock size next time, but I'll look back here to see what your experience is with different tire manufactures. Thanks for that and Spirello - You have a beautiful Nomad man!

I replaced my Metz's 1000 miles ago with Dunlop Elite 3s. The Metzs had 16,700 miles on them. I don't think it is tires that make the Nomad wallow in turns,I think it is the suspension.I've had it with Dunlop 208s, the Metzs, and the Bridgestones. The Elite 3s to me are noisier than the Metzs, but track better on milled surfaces and uneven surfaces.Don't want to follow the cracks or wander like the Metzs. So far I like them, but I liked the Metzs too.Don't think anyone makes a perfect tire.

Schoeney, your post triggered a thought I'd like to pass on to the forum.

I've discovered tires breakdown in composure and need to die in five to seven years, regardless of the thread depth.

The elements, mostly UV rays destroy tires over time. If anyone has let your tire sit flat or rode it flat, it's a gonner right now. If you check your air pressure and find it at 20lbs, you're causing damage to the tire that cannot heal or eventually ignore itself.

We only have 2 wheels, keep'm in good condition. Check your air pressure often. You'll love yourself for doing so! :)

Look forward to learning about some tires from this thread too..... thanks

I will say it again, Derby Cycles in Ky. Best price I have found on tires yet. Shipping to Il was $18.00. They carry Avon, Bridgestone, Dunlop and Michelin> They don't show Metzlers, but you could ask.

Anyway here is their price on the Avons:

Hope this helps, Bill ;)

Derby Cycles does seem to have good pricing, but after checking it seems the tire size selection is rather limited, at least for the 1500's. And not many whitewalls available. I like the ME880's and they are one of the only tires available in the size I require in WWW. I wouldn't be opposed to trying something different if I could find one that fits.

I guess I won't have to worry about this as we go through a set of tires every year on both bikes.

On my next replacement I think I am going to try the Elite 3 radial on the rear. Or I am going to Avons.
