I had the opposite problem. The stock windshield was too tall. I ordered one from Clearview 2" shorter than stock. Their windshield is thicker than stock, real good quality. I believe they are wider than stock. I am very happy with it. If you do order one be prepared to wait for delivery. It took 6 weeks for mine to come in. I called a couple of times to check on it. They were very helpful. I also talked to them about figuring out the correct height.

I have a buddy who has a Clearview shield on his 1500 Classic. They are nice and a tad wider than stock. I'll get one for myself when that time comes.

That recurve lip on the top will deflect the air about 2" higher as compared to the same height without the lip. Thought about getting one to go on my fairing.

Here is a picture I posted a while back for a Clearview 2" over with the stock shield set in front of it.

It's about the same height when completely lowered as the stock in the medium position.

Padlo, GREAT pic THANKs.. for me all the way up is too short.. the 2" looks about right.. Ill add 2"s of something on my stocker to see if its tall enough,, I had a 21" memphis Fats shiels on my Honda and tha was too tall...so I cut off a 1 1/2" I assume the windshield is fixed and not adjustable when installed???Great it its fixed!:) Rich

I like having the windshield in the lowest position so that it fits nice around the headlight and the lower part extends down to the light bar. This blocks more air from getting through from below. You might want to get the 4" over to allow you to mount it in the lower position. I took off the adjustable insert since I can mount the Clearview in the low position.

I got the 19.5 inch high Clearview shield, with the recurve and grey tint.. I am 6 foot, but like to look over the shield and this works perfect for me and the recurve works very well, giving me a full view with no buffing. I have the shield set in the mid adjustment, so I can still go down or up, if I choose. I did not have to wait for it, order on a Friday got it by the next week, due to them having that model in stock. So if your Lucky, they may have it stock or even grade B shields with a small imperfection at a reduced cost.

Pablo,,,, Cool beans,, is the light cut out the same as the stocker?and do you need to use the little adjuster shield???

The cut out is the same and it is your option to use the adjuster shield. I did, but I have read that some do not. You use the same mounting hardware and chrome from your old stock shield, everything is pre drilled to fit.

I did not use the adjuster shield, but put spacers (washers) in to make up the thickness difference. Like I said earlier, I can now put my shield all the way down and it is the same height as the stock shield in the medium position. I like the vent. With the vent open, it lets in some air, but seems to cut down the turbulence behind the shield. I also got the recurve at the top, but can't tell if this makes any difference.

I had a clearview windshield on my st1100 with the recurve and tint. I also don't know if the recurve helps but I was happy with it.
I read about them for the Nomad. They can be ordered 2" lower,
2" or 4" taller. With the recurve or not. Slightly tinted or clear and with or without the vent. Also not that the clearview is also 2" wider than stock for the Nomad. I'm only 5ft 10 in and am thinking of the one that's 2" shorter as I like to look over the windshield. If you are thinking of getting the tinted and you adjust your windshield where you're looking though it, I wouldn't suggest the tinted if you drive at night. That little bit of tint can effect your sight involving seeing pot holes or road surfaces. Even if you adjust to see over I noticed that there are certain circumstances where at night, I found that the windshield could've been a little lower with the tinted one. An example is when riding on unfamiliar roads that had rough surfaces I wanted to see the road closer to the front wheel while driving.

Sorry. 1.5 inches shorter, or 1.5 or 2.5 taller than stock.

At 6ft 3 I look way over the stocker LOL. When I had a 21" Memphis Fats on my Honda the shield hit me between the eyes,, SUCKED,, so I cut a 1 1/2 " off it..
Pablo, I like your idea of NOT using the adjuster and giving more up and down to the shield http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif Man you guys have some GREAT ideas. ; http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif THANKYOU all for the INFO!!! Rich

I think I can actually help you on this one! First time I can actually add something to this site, instead of just lurking around....

I'm 6'4", and also looked way over the stock shield while simulataneously getting pummelled by wind buffetting. First mod was to cut some larger lowers, and that helped a lot, but didn't really cure it.

After reading Pablo's posts about his replacement shield, I too decided to go with the Clearview, 23.5" height, vent, with recurve and no tint. (Thanks again Pablo!!!) I chose this height to allow me the full range of options. I can raise it all the way up and just barely look through the shield, or lower it, look completely over, and feel all the air in the face I want.

Trust me, if you're a taller rider (6'2" and up), you will GREATLY benefit from the Clearview replacement over the stocker. I was amazed at the difference it made during the first few initial rides.

Before getting this shield, even with the larger lowers, I still got a little buffetting. And if I kicked my feet up on the bar mounted pegs, I'd get even more. That's all gone now, and I can ride up and down I-95 at Mach III, and feel nothing but smooth air.

Pros:

1. MUCH better quality that OEM (thicker material, much sturdier)
2. 2" wider overall than stock, and the extra material at the base seems to seal off the air coming in over the tank which caused the buffetting.
3. With Kawi lightbar and STOCK lowers, there's NO buffetting at all.
4. The vent allows enough air to create a seamless pocket, making all the air flow perfectly around you

Cons:

1. Took a whole seven weeks to get here. I was going nuts with anticipation, because I'm an instant gratification kind of guy :), and I had to ride around with a semi-destroyed stock windshield for a couple of months (don't ask).

2. You'll have to get used to the sheer size difference, but that will only take about 10 minutes. It's noticeable right out of the box, but all that extra material is what makes the difference in the ride.

If you get it, you'll love it. And if you can't wait, ask them if they have any "blems". They sell those at a reduced rate, due to the slight imperfections which vary from small distortions, to small scratches on the product. There are also resellers on the net that carry the "blems" for resale.

Good Luck....it's a great product.

What Reg said. Mine arrived about three weeks ago. Love it. Bought the one that is about 2" oversized, with the recurve and the vent. Love it. Absolutley no buffetting for either me or my wife. It really improved her enjoyment of the ride.

I set it down as far as it would go and now look through the shield about 2 or 3 inches below the top. The recurve presented a slight distortion, but not enough to throw me off. All together, I still love it.

The vent may look a little funky, but I like what it does for me. Give me a great calm spot in the middle of the storm at 80 MPH.

I bought a clearview this past winter and got the tint w/recurve. I like it very much. The tint is not dark at all. it is 2in wider than stock. The quality is top notch. All my hardware fit as if I drilled all the holes myself. If you need something special, call them and discuss it. They try to be flexible.

I'll continue in your hijack excapades... ;)

One of my hobbies is woodworking. After i did the Caddman intake mod I discovered that I don't really like the quality and apperance of the chrome on the covers. So...I started some non metalic modding.

The instrument panel was the first to get the treatment.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b111/jhprice/Naomi/000_0013.jpg

Next came the Spectro air filters. Compare them with and with out the Lacewood medallions. I’ve since turned a couple of screw covers to hide the screw heads. One side has a Texas quarter in the center and the other has a Canadian loonie. I’m originally from Texas and my wife is Canadian.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b111/jhprice/Naomi/000_0018.jpg

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b111/jhprice/Naomi/LtQtrEng2.jpg

Finally, I redid the F&S backrests from plain black “Hide of the Nauga” to Lacewood. The passenger rest is extensively modified and reshaped. It was leaned back too far and my wife was very uncomfortable with the “reclined position. All the “mods” that I found left it looking rather cobbled together. So, I reshaped the foam to a wedge shape and recovered making the back out of Lacewood.

All together, I’m pleased with the appearance. Kind of a “woodie” look that goes with the retro look of the Nomad.

bigjohn,
You have a sharp looking bike there. I've also got a Clearview shield on order. Can't wait to get it. Hope the stress cracks in my current shield hold out long enough until the new one gets here.
I noticed that you've done some kind of mod to the passenger backrest to make it not lean back as much. Looks like a good idea, as I have had riders tell me it leans back to much. Any suggestions on how to do that?
Thanks,
JD Denman

It's not difficult. You need to reupholster the back rest. When you do, have the foam cut in a wedge with the fatest part at the top, tapering down to the bottom. Then have a new cover sewn over it. Nancy really likes the change. Makes goign cross country much more comfortable for her.
