We had dresser bar chaps on all 3 of our Nomads and we have seen evidence that the chaps can and do make contact with the front of the bags no mater how tight they fit. We found scuff mark on the bags and they are very hard to buff out. So we went to Wal-Mart and found some Schotchguard Paint Protection Film. One box is enough to do both bags on one bike.
Liz just followed the directions and installed it on both bikes starting about an inch above the dresser bar and down the face of the bags. It ended up a couple of inches from the front mounting bracket. If you still wanted to use the dresser bar chaps you could and not worry about scuffing any paint.
Cost to install the film on both bikes was $22.00 plus tax and about 1 hour of time to remove the bags, install the film and put the bags back on the bikes. Cheap bag protection!

Sounds like a great idea. What department did you find it in? How would it work on the tank area between the seat at chrome trim for the speedo? I'm a "big boned" rider and rub against this part of the tank sometimes. I was going to buy a tank bib but I'm not crazy about the looks of them.
Thanks in advance from a newbie to Nomads and this forum

Thanks for the idea. I have a tank bag I like to use for easy access to debit card for gas, change for toll roads etc but haven't used a lot as it has such big magnets in it has already left one fine scartch that buffs out...reappears...buffs out...etc...

Can't wait to get some, thanks!
I can think of several places.
Around the key hole,
on top to protect for errant shoes,
on the tank by the crotch scratches,
on the front of the tank to protect from flying stones,
and I'm sure others will think of more places.
Good find!

Careful!
You'll end up with your bike stored in a bubble and never ride if you worry about every scratch.

AutoTrim Design ( http://www.autotrimdesign.net/detail.jsp?item=IPP-KAW-1011&category=14095 ) makes the InvisiGuard paint protection kit that is the same .08mm vinyl film but cut into individual pre-formed pieces for different parts of the bike (it's a lot more expensive than $22, though) and you can either use the excess for other places - like around the gas cap - or buy the vinyl from Walmart or, in bulk, from any vinyl sign maker in your area.
I haven't put on my entire kit yet. I ruined one of the saddlebag pieces right off (because I suck) and just buffed out and put on the lower tank guard piece this last weekend where the front of the seat touches. It actually looks real good. I'm thinking I'll go ahead with the kit and even do other places like under the seat where the rubber rubs the paint.
I used 3-M paint protection film on the bags between the rear bag guards so the wife doesn't have to worry about scuffing the bags with the back of her shoes. Because she knows I will not be a happy biker.
