Would it be possible for someone to post a sound file of the debaffled pipes........The reason I ask is because I was once told that vance and hines cruzer pipes would make my 800 classic sound really sweet...a nice low rumble they said!!
When all was said and done, I had a hard time finding anyone to ride with after the first time riding with them unless I rode at the back of the group. Everyone was going deaf from my pipes including my wife and I. She is dead set against me doing it again and I can't really say I blame her......Lot louder for her on the back then it was for me.
I just don't want to go through that again.......

Welcome to the forum operater. I agree with Rich. I debaffled (actually de-silencered) my stock pipes and find the exhaust note to be deeper and throatier and only slightly louder than stock. Nothing compared to my friend who runs V&H baggers on his bike (granted, it's a Harley). Don't know about sound clips though. Good luck.

I can guarentee you that you will not think they are too loud. It is slightly louder than stock but deeper sounding. Cruising in 5th you can hear the wind more than you can hear your bike.

Anybody notice a change in MPG or performance good or bad after removing the baffles?

No change at all, just more rumble, especially at idle.

Can't really say. I de-baffled mine 2 weeks after I bought her.

Just do it, they won't be too loud.
I wish mine was a little louder. Some day when I find a welder-friend I'll gut the goat.

I did my bafflectomy to my 07 and my wife and I can talk with no problems at any speed, in fact at highway speed the bike is still very quiet. My mileage did seem to change, but that's hard to tell. Before removing, I was getting about 37 mpg and now 40+mpg. But the 37 was on winter gas with only about 600 miles on the bike.

Welcome to the forum operator. After much thought I decided to de-silencer my stock pipes and I have no regrets whatsoever. My wife can hear as good as a cat and she has no complaints. It has a deeper tone at idle and low end but at highway speed I find it sounds pretty much the same. Not loud at all. I noticed a little gain in mpg but it could be finishing the break in period or experimenting with different fuel octane ratings. I fill up with 93 and top off with 87 when my tank is about half full. I find the mpg is better with the mixture. I've tried 89 and heard some pinging?? My next mod will be a K & N air filter. I've heard that helps power and mpg. Again, welcome.

I tried to find some youtube videos...but no luck so far. I'll keep looking. But....like most of the guys on here stated, it won't be too loud. I'm looking to upgrade to the V&H because they're not loud enough for me!! All I've done myself is the de-silencered portion and it does sound better....specially for the $$!!! LOL! You won't be disappointed!

If you take the baffles out do you have to worry about the intake?

I have been considering doing this as well and had the same issue, the passenger. Sounds like it is not a problem. Can anyone post a link to some good instructions for an '06? I found some but they all referenced older models and I have heard that the mufflers are different in newer Nomads.

Same procedure for 1500's and 1600's.
