View Full Version : And it's gone
Jared

Over the past two years riding has become more and more challenging, mostly because of the changes in my wife's and my career, and our growing family, which we now have two kids under 5.
Last week I posted my motorcycle for sale on Facebook, and after just one day of it being posted I had several inquires for both the bike as a whole, and its accessories. Today I met with new owners at the bank and finalized the sale.
Motorcycling has played a huge identifying part of my life for the past 8 years. On Nomads (owned four) I have motorcycled all 49 reachable states, and probably around 175K miles. The memories and friendships forged while motorcycling will be something I'll hold onto dearly, but at this time I will be focusing on creating new, more family-focused memories, and growing my business.
I appreciate the role that VBA has played in creating these memories, and hope to hang around here and as often as I can.

Most of us here have made the same decision when we had young families. I'm sure that in 15-20 years you will be getting another bike like we all did.

What Steve said. I took about 20 years off of riding to raise my family, and back in '05 I saw the bike I still have now, and that ole itch started again. I kept my motorcycle license all those years knowing one day I would need them again.
Jared, it was great to meet you in Eureka Springs. I wish you and your family all the best, and hope all goes as planed.

Yup, did it too. Took off years while there were little ones to care for. We will see you when they go to college and you have empty nest syndrome!
:)
Best wishes and God speed to you and yours!
Be safe, love and hug those kids,

Like other folks have said, you may well be riding again in 20 years. I also took off for a time even thought I didn't have any kids (got paranoid).

Best of luck Jared and Please stay connected. Your bile, blog and videos are what helped me transform my nomad to what I have today. The new owner is a lucky guy. Family and new endeavors are priceless.

Hey Jared, we all got to make decisions that concern our families. I, too, took 20 years off to raise my 2 boys with my beautiful wife of 33 years. My advice to you is to make the most of every minute with your wife and children, because life is to short to sweat the small things. Tomorrow I will be laying my wife, soul mate and best friend to rest. GOD called her home on Wednesday night. So, please make the most of what you have because tomorrow it could be gone. I was Blessed with the best mate ever. Good luck with your future. PS. put GOD in your life, you won't regret it.

Jarad thanks for all the great work you have done for the VBA. As many have said already I too put motorcycles aside for a number of years to Bring up a family, but picked up where I left off later. Don't be a stranger on here.

Same thing as all these old guys! 20 year break to raise a family. Soon as I was an empty nester I had my 2006 Nomad in two months. You will rise again youngin' As "why we ride video states" " Once the seed of motorcycling has been watered and sprouts it'll never leave you." Beautiful children by the way!!!

Robert,
So sorry to hear about this, my prayers are sent to you and your family in hopes God will guide you through this difficult time in your life.
I wish you the very best in your career and family life. Like many others have noted, I took some time off of the bike while raising my family. I began to feel a bit selfish when riding because my family couldn't all enjoy the experience. I'm sure you'll be back in time. You can't ride as many miles as you have without biking being in your blood. Again, best of luck and thank you for your service to the VBA community.
P.S. Thank you for the pictures. They brought back a lot of great memories of our visit to "The Friendliest Ghost Town In Alaska."

As stunning and breathtaking your photos of motorcycles and travels are, they are nuthin' compared to the simple snapshot of your two children. You are very blessed and wise to place them ahead of bikes for a while if not forever. All the best to you and your family.
When you do get another bike, DON'T STAND ON THE SEAT....................

Jared, As mentioned we all took a break from riding to take care of the family! :) I took off a bit over 20 years, put 2 through college,1 through Tech School and 1 in the ARMY! All 5 have good jobs and family values, Which is missing in a lot of families today FAMILY FIRST is the number 1 rule. Good luck with your family and your job!

I'm late to this thread but I wish you the best for your future! It amazes me how many of us gave up riding for almost 20 years and then came back, me included.
Robert
I am so sorry for your loss. I have been married for 38 years and cannot imagine loosing her. I read somewhere that you know your getting old when you hope to die before your spouse because you do not want to deal with the pain of loosing them. I'm apparently getting old because I've had the thought.
May we all make the best of the time we are given.

Good luck in the future, great looking kids, take care of them and yourself. You're young enough, you can do that and then ride. I turned 60 last year and have only been riding for the past three plus years, you can do it all, you just have to set the priorities right.

Jared, great pics and good looking family. Take care of them and yourself, the riding will come back, you're young enough to do it all. I turned 60 last year and have only been riding for a bit over three years and love it. You have your priorities right, family first, do what you have to do, make them happy and you'll be happy......SORRY for the double post!

Life changes and so do priorities. It was great meeting you back at the VBA/VRA rally in Eureka. Good luck with whatever direction life takes you and your family. Also glad you will be hanging around the forums; you have always been helpful with great information about our bikes.
Was off my bike 35 yrs and now I'm back lovin every time I'm riding. This is a great forum. Wishing you well in all future endeavors. Children are special, so enjoy them everyday.

in march 84 I bought a new 83 Yamaha venture .... april 84 found out we were going to start a family so I bought a side car and kept on going .... only had 1 kid so that worked out well but did slow down the traveling ... kept that bike 27 years / 150 k miles then moved on to the current 010 nomad
at 13 months we took the kid to quebeck for her first big trip with tent and sleeping bags and had great time then to Yellowstone and various places as time and money allowed .... just cant quit
Like the rest have said, we've all taken that break and it is well worth it. I took a motorcycle hiatus until my 4th child, my son, reached motorcycling age himself. Now we ride together. All the best, Jared.
Seems like just yesterday you were struggling with puberty Brad.:lmao:
He's still struggling...... with puberty that is. All the best to you guys.... blowndodge and all.
Jared, raise and educate your kids... then come back. Life is too short.

Looks like she might be up for sale again. Some dude in Tucson has it up for $4500. Doesn't look like it was taken care of as well as when it's previous owner had her.

Jared, best wishes, and good fortune in whatever endeavor you choose.....we'll see you again, my friend, down the road, on a bike. Once bitten, always there....
Be it 20 years or 20 weeks, we'll see ya riding again one day. Till then, keep the faith!
At one time, I just rode my Harley to the Dealership and back every day and very seldom rode her on the weekends. That lasted about 8 years. Thats the closest I came to not riding....
Even when I was run over recovering, I had my bike in the garage, learning to walk again after the wreck took almost a year. But, you can get killed crossing the street.
Hope and wish for the best for you and yours, we'll see you later on down the hwy....

Funny to see this thread pop back up again. Life without the bike has been tough, and yes I know that it was resold. I contemplating buying it back, but it's simply not time. Right now, nothing is more satisfactory than pouring my time and energy into my kids and business.

When the kids are running to soccer games and other extra curricular activities, it'll be great to have a bike then. Now is the time to hug, love, teach and support your children. Kudos to you!

Amen, Brothers. I went 17 years without a bike. Had to get the kids grown and thru school. Also Build my career to make more money. Now I am Back and have both. You will get there.
Hey Jared... I recently answered the resurrecter of an old thread asking for a link to your videos by directing him to your YouTube clips (http://vulcanbagger.com/forums/showthread.php?p=697981#post697981)
On the way to find them I had a look around in your photography website.
It's clear from that website that you love your work, and your family... It's also clear from your videos (and we all remember) that you felt the same way about your bike until your focus had to shift to accommodate the former. Your priorities are spot on.
So good luck with all your endeavors out ahead. We all look forward to seeing you back in here more regularly, at some point when a bike better fits into your life and family again.
