Looking for ideas for a seat upgrade on my 2013 Voyager. I was considering a Ultimate Seat? any feed back would greatly be appreciated.

I've tried OEM, Mustang, and Russell. That last one gets my vote, and my passengers. I just wish I'd gone with RDL first - I would have saved myself a very big spend-up. Just think for a moment what it must cost to ship a seat to or from NZ from or to the USA, and then multiply that by the 3 times I've done it.

RDL, yeah ouch on the $$$. Have not heard (seen) a single negative comment against the RDL's. I wish I had done it and not the Corbin. The Corbin does look good though...
Ride safe,

I'm a Corbin guy. I've had Corbins on my last 3 bikes. But if you don't like wide, flat, hard seats, you won't like it.

My Mustang touring seat works well for the long trips, especially with the driver backrest on for my worn out lower back. Firm, but compliant, wide with great thigh support and after a 300 mile run, my rear end still feels okay. I use the stock seat when running around locally just for the day.

I have a Nomad so this may not pertain to your situation but I have an Ultimate seat on my bike now.
I bought it to replace the Mustang that now sits in my garage.
The mustang even with the backrest was not a long haul seat for me.
I rode the Ultimate to Colorado from NY and back with no problem.
That being said, everyone has a different seat time tolerance.

Thanks for all the input! I will buy the Ultimate, seems to have decent reviews and just my personal opinion I think its one of the better looking seats for the Vulcan's 1700.

I'm with TC...cept I haven't ridden with the Ultimate but I did sit on it at a Rally and it was a very comfortable seat...I had a mustang on my Nomad as well and hated it....

I just ordered a custom built Corbin seat for my Vaquero. I will let everyone know how it is on a long trip later in summer.

I had an ultimate seat on my 08 nomad and it was very comfortable for long distance rides.

I've had one Mustang and two Corbins. The Corbins fit me the best. I actually haven't had a problem with the stock seat on the Nomad, which I think is the same as the Voyager. Haven't been on any long trips yet though. If I make a change it will be another Corbin.

My Nomad had a Corbin Dual Tour when I got it. Didn't like it at first, but the more I ride it, the better I like it. It is wide and quite firm, but it feels better after a couple of hundred miles than it does starting out.

Corbin uses a firm type of foam so it won't bottom out during long rides. They do break in to an individual's butt. I'll probably end up with one on this bike eventually.

I will say that my Russell Day Long has been on 3 different Voyagers and 500 mile days are done often, 850 was the longest. (And I could still walk)

I have a BMS http://www.billmayer-saddles.com/ on my Vstrom 39k miles and still going strong. I have a Corbin on my nomad 25k milles of 2 up ridding and it breaking in just fine. Both good seats.
I like the way BMS works with you, more hands on. Corbin I felt rushed when they made the seat.

I put a mustang on my vaquero and I am very happy with it. The stock seat used to give me a numb ass in about 30 mins but with the Mustang after I broke it in I never thought about it again because I don't have any issues.

I have a Mustang seat, the vintage tourer....so far so good, a bit firm but they do break in well and have a great pillion for the passenger. I like the driver backrest as well.

I've have Ultimate seats on my CANAM RT and on my Vulcan 900. Just got a 2015 Vaquero and was disappointed to find they don't have a seat for it. I was hoping I could use their solo seat for the Voyager but they say it won't fit. Bummer ...

Try Corbin. I've had several Corbin seats and loved them all. Plus you can choose from a large selection of different leather and vinyl textures to create some really cool custom looks. They feel very firm at first but the trick is that they cup your behind for even weight distribution and the firm foam never bottoms out during long rides. I'm actually pretty happy with the comfort of the stock seat on my Nomad 1700 but I know I'll probably put a Corbin on it next year for the custom look I can achieve.

Wife just took her first long ride on my Voyager. She wants an upgrade for her seat. Problem is I'm only 5'7" so I really can't buy an aftermarket that puts me higher as I can barely flat foot it now. I see Kaw sells the gel upgrade (I know I hear it sucks) and I'm wondering if I can just replace her seat and keep my stock. Gotta be better than OEM, right? BTW because I got the rear speakers and can't get the Marvellas grab rails the Grasshopper is making an excellent grab for her.

I have a Mustang seat and it's like sitting in the hands of God and that's without the backrest. When I put on the back rest it's even better. I am however riding a Vaquero and not a nomad so maybe that has something to do with it since it's two different seats but I love my Mustang seat.

I'm really curious what I'm missing, as I think the stock seat on the Nomad (same as Voyager) is awesome. It is wayyyyy better than the seat on my 900. I'd say it's plush. Are the aftermarket seats really better?

'Course, I haven't sat on the passenger part while riding, but it seems pretty plush as well.

I don't have a problem with it either. What I really think the issue is is she is missing the Mustang from the 1600 Nomad. So if I can I hope to at least just replace hers with the gel.

My wife thinks the seat on the Nomad is the most comfortable passenger seat she's ever ridden on. But who says after market seats are going to sit higher? Most makers say they sit at the same height as stock. I'm betting a Corban would sit lower.

Me either. The stock seat was good for a hour or so, the mustang two...I should have gotten a russell for the Nomad. Probably would have kept it a little longer.

Both the OEM rider gel, Mustand and RDL sit u higher from what I've read.

So far I have about 500 miles on this new Corbin seat now and it is the best yet over my Mustang Vintage touring unit, and the stock one. After a long ride your hiney still feels good, you can move around on it more, you have more leg room and it sits a little lower, making it easier to get your feet down especially for shorter riders (I am only 5'9). The leather and stitching is of the highest quality.

Only 5' 9"? I should be so lucky, I'm only 5' 5". Nice to know the Corbins sit lower. I'll probably upgrade to one next year. I'm done throwing money at the bike for now.

Hi all, I'm buying a 2014 Vaquero SE and was already thinking about the seat upgrade. I'm thinking I'll go with the Mustang with backrests for both driver and passenger. I was wondering if anyone has gotten the custom seat with the orange stitching to match the bike. I think it might look cool, also, if you did, did you get the orange stitching on the backrests (if they do custom backrests). Thanks

Do you want it to look good or be the most comfortable seat you can get?

Jim....do you really thing the color of the stitching will change the comfort?:cool:

Maybe he should change his blinker fluid too :p

The difference in price between the Mustang and the RDL isn't enough not to go for the RDL, which is made for the rider. From experience here, seems that people like the way Mustangs look and go with that as primary motivator. I bought Mustang twice. I wouldn't waste my time again.

Both of course! Lol. BUT honestly, at this point, comfort would trump looks.

My RDL seat might not be the best looking but my buns love the 700+ mile comfort.

Russell has options for materials and threads. Take a look. I am sure they could make you a seat that looks decent but works better than anything else.

I just took a look at their site, I'll call them, way too confusing lol. Thanks
