View Full Version : 2016 Northeast US / Eastern Canada Rally
We have been working hard over the last several weeks on the 2016 Northeast US / Eastern Canada Regional Rally, and are finally in a position to share some details with you. As stated earlier, this year's rally will be held in Canada.
The location is Mont-Tremblant in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec, about 70 miles northwest of Montreal and 70 miles northeast of Ottawa. Probably best known as a premier ski destination, it is a year-round resort area with plenty to do in every season. And most importantly, it is home to some great motorcycling roads.
Here are the details:
Where: Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, Canada
When: August 16th - 18th
Arrive: Monday, August 15th (check in after 3:30 PM)
Depart: Friday, August 19th (check out by 11:30 AM)
Motel: Hotel-motel le Boise du lac
Website: http://www.boisedulac.com/ (don't let that white stuff in the picture scare you!!!)
The motel is located on the shores of Lake Duhamel and is about five minutes away from Mont-Tremblant (St-Jovite), where there are many activities, restaurants and shops. The motel has a private beach for swimming, fishing, and just relaxing, along with free use of canoes, pedal boats and rowing boats. There is also table tennis and badminton, two BBQ’s, two tents on the lawn (one big enough for two picnic tables), a large deck facing the lake with plenty of chairs, and a campfire setup.
The motel has 17 rooms, all non-smoking. Each has a complete bathroom, a mini-refrigerator, cable TV and free wireless internet. Some rooms have a fireplace, a therapeutic bath, or a kitchenette. And each morning, there is a continental breakfast. Finally, there is a public access kitchen.
Rooms, Pricing and Reservations (all prices in CDN dollars):
5 rooms with 1 queen bed - $118.
6 rooms with 2 double beds - $128.
1 room with 1 queen bed and 1 bunk bed - $148.
2 rooms with 1 double bed - $98.
1 room with 1 queen bed and 1 double Jacuzzi - $158.
1 room with 1 queen bed and a fireplace - $138.
1 room with 1 queen bed, 1 queen sofa bed, and 1 single sofa bed - $148.
Rates: Double occupancy, add $10 per extra person
The owner has offered our group half price on all rooms for the third night of our stay, provided we book by May 15th. All credit cards will be charged on May 15th, and no refunds will be given after that date. Any booking after May 15th will receive 10% off for the third night.
There will be a special web site set up exclusively for our use that should be available later this month. This site should be used for all reservations in order to get the discount pricing.
At this time, 15 of the 17 rooms have been blocked (the queen with the fireplace and the queen with the Jacuzzi are not blocked, but they can still be booked). We will let you know when you can start making reservations, and the web site address to use.
Please note that motels in the Mont-Tremblant area fill up very early, and the room block will only be in effect for a short period of time. It is very important that reservations be made as early as possible, preferably by the end of January. We will let you know in advance when the block will be lifted.
Group Rides and Activities:
We are planning two group rides, one on Tuesday and one on Thursday. Both rides are still in the planning stages, but between them will include the Laurentians as well as riding along parts of the Ottawa River. Each ride will be about 200 miles. More details on those coming later.
Wednesday will be a “do your own thing” day, with a choice of activities ranging from relaxing around the motel to additional riding to a day in the town of Mont-Tremblant. Below is a web site to the Mont-Tremblant area for summer activities.
http://www.tremblant.ca/activities-and-events/summer-activities/index.aspx
Other Considerations:
For US attendees, note that the current exchange rate is very favorable for travel to Canada.
Also for US attendees, we will be posting additional information on travel to Canada, including identification requirements, gun laws, etc.
We’re anticipating a great rally this coming summer, and look forward to seeing you there.

Any one entering Canada for our North East US / Eastern Canada Regional rally will need one of the following documents. Without it you will not be allowed to cross the border into Canada from the United States.
The following documents may be satisfactory evidence of United States (U.S.) citizenship:
A valid U.S. passport, U.S. passport card, or a Certificate of Citizenship and Naturalization are considered primary evidence and are acceptable proof of U.S. citizenship.
The Enhanced Drivers License (EDL) and Enhanced Identification Card (EIC) (non-drivers) are alternative travel documents denoting the holder's identity and citizenship and are acceptable proof of U.S. citizenship when entering from the U.S. through land and marine ports of entry only.
An original U.S. birth certificate, when accompanied by a valid government issued photo identification document, is considered an indicator and may be an acceptable proof of U.S. citizenship.
A passport is the preferred document but an Enhanced Drivers License is cheaper to obtain.
HOWEVER, there are only 4 states now offering Enhanced Drivers Licenses,
Michigan
New York
Washington
Vermont
States considering implementing an Enhanced Drivers Licenses include:
Arizona
Idaho
Maine
Minnesota
New Hampshire
New Mexico
North Dakota
Texas
I would suggest reading this webpage for more info.
http://www.dmv.org/driving-abroad/passport-license.php
You should also be aware no firearms are allowed to be brought into Canada.
If you normally carry, you will have to leave your weapon at home.

You bet. Going to be a great summer. So many places to ride. Only a few weeks to go now to get going. Try and get some work in around the riding :D
Well still lots of snow, ice and sand on the roads we will be riding on, but all will be good in about 6-8 weeks. Slower for winter to lose it's grip up here in the mountains.

When Donald Trump gets to be President he is going to build a wall all around the US. That will keep the snow up with you guys where it belongs. :tehe:

I will vote for anybody running against the Democrats this election.
If that is Trump, so be it. I would rather it not be though.

I am thinking hard about it. I would take the autotrain up and ride the rest. Then ride back down to Florida.

The auto train runs from where to where?
Hillhouse

The auto train only runs between Washington, DC and Orlando, FL and back.
Saves about 900 miles of riding. You leave in the afternoon (~4 PM)and arrive in the morning(~8 AM) so you can sleep then do a full days worth of riding or site seeing.
I'm looking at doing it in the other direction to get out to Key West.

thanks
Dave, tremblant is a resort, it's a very safe area... very few bums can afford to go there... ;)

I don't think you have much to worry about. Lock the wheel lock at night and you should be good. The motel is a bit off the hyway and the the parking is not visable from the road. Rooms on one side of the motel look over the lake, rooms on the other side face the parking and you could park within a few feet of your door if you are on that side.

i want to attend, but its to far out to book a room with a no refund policy if i had to cancel. so i will have to wait to book a room till a few weeks before the start date and hope i can get a room
Hi Dave,
If you are able to go, you're welcome to ride up with us. We're just north of you in Lee. There will be some friends from Mass joining us, and we'll be meeting up with my son in the Littleton area on the way up.
If there are no more rooms available, there are a couple of other motels that we looked at that might still have rooms.

There are only 6 rooms left at the moment and all the rooms booked are by our gang because we have them blocked, but that will end shortly. The no refund, no cancelation after May15th was part of the deal we made in getting the rooms blocked. I was talking with the owner 2 days ago and she informed me she is already getting inquires about booking the week we will be there from other people. Being a popular vacation motel, I think they will book those remaining rooms fairly quickly once the block is lifted. As Tomm mentioned there are other motels that we looked at not too far away and a comfort inn maybe 5 minutes down the road. Hope you can make it Dave.

Just saw this only now. Haven't gone through the entire thread yet and skimmed. I would be willing to meet you guys for the day since I am from Ottawa if you are interested in me tagging along. If anyone must cancel I would be interested in booking their room at reduced rate they offered you guys. PM me.
327 from Lachute to Mont Tremblant (70kms) is the best road for bikes but pales compared to anything around Deal Gap area.

I live in Ottawa and frequent Tremblant. It is a very rich area and there will be many more bikes (Harely's) worth stealing than ours IMO. I would be more concerned around the ski village at the base of the hill as you have alcohol and bars everywhere.

Did you call the motel? They may not have booked all the rooms and they will still honor the rate if anything is left. Just make sure you mention you are with the motorcycle group VBA. Also there is one or two fellas that may be alone in a room and my be will to share cost. The 327 is nice but parts are getting bumpy. We will be riding potential routes in the next few weeks and then finalizing the two routes for the two riding days. One ride may or may not include part of the 327.
As for meeting up with the group that is possible too providing that you fill out ahead of time a Vba wavier and hand it to one of the ride leaders introducing yourself. We also will need to know ahead of time if you plan to bail out anywhere along the ride as we will be doing head counts to make sure we do not lose anyone.
