View Full Version : VBA Leadership Changes

Hey VBA Members,
As we have be going over various trainings for the new VBA leadership, there have been some additional changes that need to be announce. Jay Stephen’s family is expanding and his free time is become less and less and therefore it’s been decided that an alternative president of VBA would be best.
Dave Jesse (Budman) has accepted the position as VBA president. Dave will be a great president for VBA. Dave has in one way or another help with several of VBA’s rallies. He has been leading in the south central region for years and both he and his wife enjoy riding their Vulcans.
At the end of the month this change will be finalized. Dave Jesse (Budman) will be the new VBA President with Amin Bakri (Rasta) as the Vice President. Can everyone please show your support to these two as they lead VBA.
Best,
Jared

Congratulations to everyone!!
Change is inevitable, isn't it? It takes courage to admit and react to change. To me, Jared and Jay are not only showing courage but admitting they both care about the VBA. Care enough to admit that change has caused them to pass the VBA baton only after a couple of years. My thanks to Jared and Jay for their service as Leaders of the VBA. I wish them only the best in everything they do.
As far as their successors, I can't think of anyone any better to lead the VBA than Dave and Amin. It takes a lot of things to be a successful leader. Two traits I think a VBA leader has to have is commitment and patience. I've found that Dave and Amin have those traits and will continue to promote the VBA in such a way as to help it grow and prosper.
I've known Dave for a number of years. He's always been one to get involved and make a difference for everyone in the VBA. I've seen Dave take on some of the most difficult issues and resolve them with dignity and fairness.
I met Amin for the first time at the recent Antler's Rally. I was thoroughly impressed with his people skills and ability to make everyone a part. He loves to ride and help everyone in that effort.
It is my opinion that both of these men carry an attitude that's probably most important as a leader of the VBA... they love their Vulcan Baggers... they love riding and they only want the best for each VBA member!
Congrats to Dave and Amin for taking on the challenge!
Trip
PS. Yep, I still care about the VBA. I still frequent the VBA forum. I keep a loving watch on you guys from behind the curtain.

I'm confused?
Trip passed the baton and stepped down. Jared stepped down and passed the baton to Jay. Who's really got control of VBA if Jared and or trip is selecting and or picking new presidents? Wouldn't that be Jay's job?

Let me try and unconfuse you BD, in third person... Trip had nothing to do with the stepping down of Jared or Jay. Nor did he have anything to do with the passing of the VBA baton to Dave or Amin. Trip is simply saying the selection of Dave and Amin as VBA Pres and VP...is a good one.

In the post a few months ago, announcing the leadership changes, I announced that it would take a few months for the process to be finalized. There are various trainings and procedures that needed to be done. During that time Jay found out his family was growing and decided an alternative president would be best. The original plan was to have everything finalized by the end of Sept, but because of the additional changes, it was postponed until the end of Oct. Since Jay didn't have a chance to officially take over as president it was decided that I'd make the announcement about the change. Hope that clears things up.
Nor did he have anything to do with the passing of the VBA baton to Dave....

I know I'm not alone in my confusion. But I'll leave that served up softball for someone else to hit out of the park. I'm just wondering what's happened since you walked away and then "gave away" the website? A site that used to promote Kawasaki and regional rallies and national rallies since the President of the site took over?
You all seem to be pretty proud of your promotions and that's nice. I'm sure all 6 of you are slapping each other on the back on how far VBA's progressed since you gave up the leadership Trip. :yep:

Thanks. I am sure Dave will do a great job. He has already started cleaning some things and adding some much needed updates.
It was suggested by Jared for Jay to make the announcement but we felt, including jay, that Jared make the announcement since he was still the president and Jay had not taken over yet.
Trip had no idea this was happening until we met in Antlers and let him know what the plan was. He did come talk to me when I was alone to ask me if this was something I really wanted to do. My answer was that I was asked and after talking to my wife I was willing to help out as the vice.
There will be nah Sayers with whatever choices are made so that was expected and I would have been very disappointed if that wasn't the case. That tells me that people are still passionate about this group even though it might not look or sound like it...... even if they have moved on to other brands, they still care what's happening here.
Thanks for the well wishes from most of you. I am sure since we will be making the big bucks now , we will have to run this shift with a tight fist.

Y'all know what they say about arguing with an idiot.:D
They was one time many decade ago when my kids found an orphaned baby squirrel. It was sickly and we did a little research on the net and nursed it back to health and made a pet of him.
Then there came a day when my not so brilliant wife and I were sitting on the couch, when the squirrel jumps from the book case to the back of the couch. Well, she wiggles her fingers and scratches the couch, playing with him.The squirrel runs down the back and across the top. This goes on for about five minutes when she grabs one of his hind legs and makes him squeal. I told her, "Honey, that ain't a good idea. He's a wild animal and not domesticated like a dog or cat". She make a goofy face at me and keeps playing with him. She makes him squeak a few more times, and I again to no avail I attempt appeal to her high pinnacle of intellect.:ohno:
Finally she screams! He bit the piss out of her through her finger! :lmao:
That little bitty squirrel with a brain less than the size of a butter bean conveyed the primitive reasoning she could finally comprehend.
Then, they's this other story about the time she took a kitten outside and my three black labs ran up to her growling and barking to get it. The kitten was clawing and scratching and she couldn't throw it down! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

That's hard to do sometimes Trip when all those sitting at the table are timid to say the meal taste like crap. Trust BD (3rd person) I'm not the minority in speaking about it. Just more vocal. In time more members will start their own group (Like I did) and go it alone. I feel even then this forum wont see the writing on the wall.

I'll agree the forum and the VBA isn't like it was when I joined.
But as I've said before, for the most part it's what the members make it.
If people are involved and participate both on the forum and at rallies the VBA has a real value.
I recently posted a question about dates for the 2016 South Central Rally.
Not one response. I can't make people interested. I wish I could.
Hopefully the members that have been here a long time and are still active on the group will continue to be,
and hopefully those that aren't will regain an interest.
Of course it will also require newer members to get involved.
To me it's the rallies that are important. That part of the VBA is what has meant the most to me.
I don't know what the future holds. But I will do what I can to help the VBA.

While I certainly don't mind a good debate or discussing issues with you BD, discussing innuendo's is not going to get us anywhere. I respect you (and always have) for the ideals you hold, feelings and opinions you have for the VBA.
I know that you realize that nothing is perfect... and the VBA and how things have been done in the past is not perfect. It's not anyone's fault, it's just they way things are.
But, we all strive to try and make things as fair and equitable as possible. Sometimes things don't work out that way. So, do you want to keep bringing up crap from the past or do you want to move on? I say, let's move on.
To be honest, you and everyone else has the right to move on and start your own group doing anything. It's a free country (or at least last check I thought it was). And to be honest again, if you've started your own group and want to go it alone, what are you doing hanging around here for?
Take your knowledge and wisdom of motorcycles and make the world a better place for all of us. You are very talented mechanically, but you need to quit throwing crap on the walls here. Forgive, forget and move on BD. The hate and negativity will consume you sooner or later.
Just my 2 cents worth.
So, from here on out, if you keep bringing up the past, I'll assume you're just wanting attention and don't really want a resolution to anything. But, if you want to stick around, jump in and help with a positive attitude and try to makes things better like the rest of us, I'll assume we're moving on with greater things on the horizon. I got three pretty good guesses. Arranged first as most likely, descending to least likely:
(a) The group will become the "Ultimate Motorbike Association" to which only a hand picked, nice shirt wearing, cognac swirling, fine cigar puffin, privileged few could aspire to become members.
(b) The group will be like the flip-flop, baggy shorts and jersey wearing young-uns on the sport bikes.
(c) First he'd declare himself Royal Omnipotent Potentate, attracting members of like peculiar idiosyncrasies. This highly regarded omniscient, very talented, mechanic's membership would badger, bitch, and worry the living hell out of him and each other (providing relief to their usual victims) and run him out of what's left of funkin' mind!
They would have some fine Cigars and Cognac and expensive shirts.:D

At any rate or scenario, my less than educated guess is the group would become defunct soon after the first rally.
'Twas Good Ol' Kawhead who warned a few years ago, BD he was incrementally becoming like the personages banished to his "Ignore" list and once his transformation was completed us privileged few on the "Allowed" list would become banished heaps to the "Ignore" list, and there'd be no means of saving him.
No one would listen.

I thought we were supposed to discuss things like the POG on a 16 year old bike.
On another site I've been helping a new owner resurrect a 99 Drifter 1500.
We've been working through Mick's problems with a 17 year old Nomad.
We've been discussing Progressive fork springs and shocks.
What are we supposed to talk about, Victory's?
This is the Vulcan Bagger Association, afterall.
I went to the VROC reunion last month, mainly because 2 friends were getting married.
MaKaw has pulled the majority of their support furnishing raffle goods.
Why?
Many believe it's because there are more Hondas and Harleys than Vulcans.
Is someone who doesn't own a Vulcan has a problem with this Vulcan site...WTF!
I'm here because of my passion for my Vulcans, all 3 of them.
The 13 year old Nomad that is almost completely restored.
The 20 year old A model that I'm not sure which direction to go with.
And the 9 year old 500 that I got for my dad.
This site has become what VROC used to be, someplace where owners share information and experiences related to their Vulcans.
Yes, we do welcome members who moved on to other brands, but the focus here still is our Vulcans.
If you want a 'social' group there's FaceBook for that.
This was not directed at one specific individual, but rather the underlying issue brought up.
I'll get off my soapbox now.
Just please, don't insult our organization.

The end result is two people passionate about the brand and bike(s) are still heads of the association. Dave and Amin are willing and able to carry the torch forward. Jared and I were at the top for a bit, but it's no secret life has changed a lot for both of our families during that time and we agreed the association would be better served by someone else.
I think Dave and Amin will do great, hopefully even better than us before them.

From a 1936 book The Best Loved Poems of the American People called: Judged by the company one keeps:
One night in late October,
when I was far from sober,
Returning with my load, with manly pride;
My feet began to stutter,
So I lay down in the gutter,
And a pig came up an’ lay down by my side;
A lady passing by was heard to say:
‘You can tell a man who “boozes”
by the company he chooses’
And the pig got up and slowly walked away.

Boo fly, ain't ya cold?"

Me thinks I might have struck a nerve Robert. If you think I'm after attention then I can't help ya there. I ride with many members that havent had an issue riding with me. If you think moving on to greater things is discussing a 16 year old Nomad's plastic oil gear then best of luck with that.
At your recommendation ill take your sound advice about ending my membership.
No nerves struck here, Brad. Just wanting you to get off the fence and do one thing or another... it's time to get a resolution. When you finally figure out that this is about you and your attitude toward the VBA and not me or anyone else, you'll be a better person.
At any rate... good luck with everything BD. I look forward to seeing you at a rally or get-together and seeing that Victory Cross Country in the future.

Best,
Jared
Congratulations to Dave for becoming the President. There is simply not a better choice, in my book, for the position.
I can already see some of the things he is doing. It will only get better.

As I read through these posts I am dismayed by some of what I see (other than the ones praising the new leaders, who I think are great choices). It has been said that this forum is not what it used to be. That's right. It is no longer an exclusive place where Nomad riders can get together and share insights. Even though I never posted often it was a joy to get on here and learn something or make contact with new friends. Unfortunately what was unique, friendly and supportive when it was KawNow has become occasionally a sniping contest. We are now the Vulcan Baggers Association, which is fine. But for whatever reason we are more accurately the Various Baggers Association. I can understand why riders who have moved away from Vulcans to other bikes want to continue to meet with their friends. And that's great, I enjoy seeing them. What I can't understand is why some of those who have left the Vulcan family feel comfortable in complaining or putting down those who have stayed loyal to the brand. I enjoy seeing friends at rallies even if they don't still ride a Vulcan. But if they can't accept the fact that this is a Vulcan riders' forum then sadly, perhaps they should stop taking part. I do have a fix for this: STAY ON TOPIC.

Congratulations to Dave and Amin, and thank you to Jay, and Jared for all your efforts! My guess is the "baton" may not be a simple thing to pass with much for Jared and Jay to teach, and a lot for Dave and Amin to learn on all the behind the scenes stuff. No matter though the VBA is in good hands.

LOL....I have not checked in here in a very long time, other than following posts regarding upcoming gatherings. For anyone who was around at the beginning of KawaNow...taking shots at other members was part and parcel of the forum. It was all done in a brotherly loving way, and he who could twist the knife the deepest usually took home the trophy. It took a bit of time for me to understand and get comfortable with that, and maybe longer to truly become a part of it, but in the end it made for some great relationships that last to this day.
What this place was or is....is decided only by those who participate...in the rallies and gatherings especially. For only then do the verbal jabs really count, when you have met your proverbial adversary face to face and shared road miles, beers, cocktails, cigars, but most important of all...many laughs...:yep:. I don't know why more people don't truly participate, but it is what it is. Over time, I have drifted away from the forums and gone more to the regular social media. Easier to keep tabs on those who are truly important in my life....just sayin'....
Oh...and congrats to Dave and Amin....I think.....:cheers::D!
