Took the tank bib off to rule out any source of rattle. Surprised to see strips of rubber tape or insulation already underneath it. So definitely ruled that out. Also put some trim I picked up at autozone on it, and the storage compartments. Putting it on the compartment doors took out about 75% of the rattle I was hearing.

Couple of pictures afterwards.

Nicely done, looks good. I placed felt pads on the storage door contact points and that quieted the door rattling noise.

Should also add to the water proofing of the doors.

Awsome fix. I have the same rattles and finally figured out it was those doors by pushing on them while driving. I'll have to try that. Thanks

I was getting a odd rattle the other day too. I popped open by glove box and noticed that the nut holding the lock in place was loose. Tightened that up...now no more rattle. So check that out too.

when I drove down a gravel rd or my alley to my shop mine rattled like crazy at first I thought it was in the fairing but it was front pads rattling and bad!
I removed them and put a thin layer of cooper silicone on back sides and hasn't made a peep sense

Good tip. I did this today and it solved a bunch of noise and buzzing up front. I found that I had lost one of the front rubber pads on the tank bib which was the main culprit making the bib vibrate against the tank. Made another and added the trim and nice and quiet. I did get one strange noise today though. Sounded like something shorting out. Similar to the crunch when you're riding thru dry leaves which I was sometimes today but it was doing it when there were no leaves, always around 2300 rpm or so. Finally figured out that the chrome trim ring around the ignition switch had vibrated up about 1/8" and was making the buzzing noise. Tapped it back in and quiet again. I have had this ring off about a half dozen times now and I guess the fit is not as tight as it was originally. Something to check when you're chasing the elusive noises.
