I have a passenger back rest ordered but the labor for the install was 3 hours which translated to about $300.00 so I said hell no to that but now I have to do it myself and I'm already dreading it because of the way they made it sound in their justification for it taking 3 hours. They said I have to take the saddlebags off and then get the whole fender mount off to cut the holes from the inside and install the bracket and that the dismantling was a large part of the time. Anybody done this before? Is it as bad as they make it sounds? Is there any way to do it without taking everything apart?

Also I thought remembered reading that the quick release was keyed to the bike so that it used the normal bike keys but they seemed to be clueless about this. I assumed that you had to give you VIN and it came keyed to the bike but they said if anything that it would come with supplies to make the stock key work. How does this work?

I dont have the backrests but did a lot of research on how to do it before Imdecided to go with the Mustang seat that had a passenger backrest. Taking the saddle bags off, which I did to install my exhaust and do frequently to clean the back wheel takes less than 3 minutes. Its 2 10mm bolts on the inside of the bag and the slip up and off. No brainer.

from what I have read you only need to drill 2. 3/8 inch holes in the subfender to acces the fasteners that are underneath. Then bolt on the bracket. I am unsure if the kit comes with a template to locate the exact spot to drill but you should be able to do it without removing the fender. I would use blue painters tape to protect the surrounding area where you drill. $300 is insane. That can be better spent. Search the forums and I bet you can get better instructions.

As Ken said. It's a no brainer. Take of saddle bags, something you'll do probably fairly often. No big deal. This will expose two allen socket head bolts to take off the trim piece between the bags and fender. Inside on the trim piece are two circles marked where you drill a 1" hole. You'll need a 1" hole saw with drill bit. Tape the outside with painters tape to protect edge and from scratching during drilling but mine came out fine. Reinstall fender trim piece. The holes expose two mounts on each side for the bracket bolts. Install bracket and you're done. Add backrest and you're good.

If you want the instructions and some photos pm me your email. I tried to attache the pdf with instructions but it's too big..

OR I'll come and do it for $150 if you don't want to do it.....:lmao::lmao:

Right, no big....I routinely take my bags off to clean the rear wheel and brake. As explained, those trim pieces come off easy and I to, punched out the marked circles with a one inch bit. Put 'em back on and the mounting barrels and brackets fit right in and bolt down to the provided threads right there on the frame work. Piece of cake.

If the dealer had quoted me $150 I probably would have done it just because I'm lazy but $300 was just so much over the top and then for them to go on about how hard it was now I'm just like F them. Prior to them making it sound so hard my only worry was the cutting but just based off your description it doesn't sound hard at all, especially with the holes being prefabbed for cutting but if I run into any trouble when it comes in I'm sure I'll be back begging for the tutorial.

When you see how easy it is, you'll even begrudge $20 for the install...:D. I doubt you'll need help but by all means I'll be glad to help. BTW since you're unlikely to take the mounting bracket off any time soon, put some blue loctite on the bolts. I'm a big believer in this stuff. I just had a few bolts on the fairing rattle loose recently and I loctited them in with the blue stuff. Never hurts to be safe.

You were 100% right. It was so easy and I emailed the dealer:bird: to tell them how much they were trying to screw me and that I was even more upset by them misleading me on how hard it was.
