:-[ :-[:-[I dumped it just a few minutes ago. My wife and I were returning from a short cruise and it happened in my driveway. I was making a sharp U-turn to back it in the garage and like a big dummy I squeezed the front brake ever so little. Just like Jerry Paladino says "Don't touch that front brake in a slow turn or you'll go down so fast that you'll think you were hit by lightning". No lie there. My wife fell like she was catapulted off. No injuries other than her burning 3 fingertips checking the bottom of the pipe for scratches. No damage to the bike at all. It must have stopped on the front floorboard because I don't have any concrete scratches on the bottom of the bars. Very easy to pick up by putting my butt against the seat and grabbing the rear crash bar and the full locked handlebar grip. No way to straddle it and stand it up grabbing the grips. Learned a valuable lesson. I think it was Wolfman who stated "There are those who have dropped their bike and those who will drop it". How true!!:-[ :-[ :-[

Glad to hear you're both ok and that the bike is unharmed. It hasn't happened to me yet, but one never knows. Sounds like a good method you had to pick it up. It's a heavy girl to try and pull back up!

I'm happy to hear that everything turned out alright, no injuries and no damage to the bike. I think about that possibility every time I back my bike into the garage and in front of my parked car.

Just like it was said, "Welcome to the club." If you drive long enough, you will have one of those brain fart moments.

I've come fairly close to dumping mine doing the exact same thing. Making a tight u-turn in my driveway to back into the garage, while dodging the front-end of my Bronco. I've always managed to catch it before it went over. I better stop that. One of these times, I won't be lucky.

Nobody's hurt and no damage, its kinda like it never really happened. Glad to hear it turned out like that. Now be careful.

It helps to do parking lot practice, and abort a U-turn in the middle of doing them using the rear brake.

The natural instinct is to use the front brake like usual, so to overcome the natural instinct, you have to practice doing otherwise.

So practicing complete U-turns might not be enough. Practice aborting them. That way when trying to miss a parked car etc. you will have built the instinct to go for the rear brake.

Glad it worked out. Somebody designed great protection for the Nomad when going down at low speed.

Glad to hear all is well ! Just remember; there is only two kinds of motorcycle riders... Those who have dumped a bike and those who will ! From my experience, the ol' pride will heal soon.

Actually, there are three types of bike riders - those that have, those that will, and those that have several times. Interesting is that my last was in the U-turn at the top of the driveway with wife on as well, with same outcome as terrebonne_nomad except no catapult or burnt fingers. Don't recall specifically using the front brake but may have because it was a right turn and the foot went down, before shift weight to the left. (only second drop by the way, for the Nomad)

So VERY glad both of you, and the bike, are O.K. I will be paying for my 'dump' for the rest of my life. The good news is, I didn't hurt my bike! Heheheheh!

Isn't this the board that is open to public? I notice something like 400 guests a day, oh well http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif
