Found a 07 Nomad with only 7,000 miles, still has full warranty till April 09...asking $9299, I could trade in my 04 Volusia for about $5,000 diff. Just got the volusia to where I like it with all the extra mods, but this is a Nomad....the wife will have a fit.....man alive...what to do.

Strip the vol back to stock and trade it on the Nomad. Sell the extras on the VR for more profit. Most times they'll give you the same on trade without the extras. You'll pocket some cash to sweetin the trade and help people who still own a vol get some extras at a good price. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

You'll be glad you traded for the Nomad, especially if you do much long distance riding...... http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

I'll go against the grain, and say that it depends on what your objectives are.
If you want to avoid debt, keep the Volusia.
If you want to keep the peace with the wife, do the same.
A Volusia will do everything that you need a bike to do, other than cover long distances riding two up.
Are you planning on long distance riding? If not, I'd keep the Volusia.
However, if you do plan on taking trips, and do plan on doing it two up, don't mind the debt, and have built up enough good will with the wife to weather the storm she'll give you.......Might as well get the Nomad.
It all depends on what your objectives are.

Let me put it to you this way; every time I take my 2000 Nomad out for a ride it makes me happy and I smile. On the road it eats up the miles and delivers satisfaction like a good hot cup of coffee on a cold and rainy afternoon and you meet a pretty woman that you spend a couple hours talking with and she invites you to her house . . . sorry, got carried away; get the picture? If you can swing it get the Nomad; you will never regret it.

I had an 04 Volusia. See right side pic below. It seems like a natural progression.
DO IT!

Having had an 05 Boulevard C50T and having made the move to a Nomad, I couldn't be happier with the decision.

I moved up from a 2005 C50 to a 2007 Nomad about a month ago, and overall I am pleased with it.
I wouldn't trade it though. I was offered $3200 as a trade in, but instead I stripped my bike and sold the accessories. Got $4900 for the bike and $1300 for the accessories. So, if you can do that, it will close the gap between bikes even more.

If you trade keep all your extras don't let the dealer have them or sell the bike yourself

Take the wife for a test ride.
You're asking here and expecting an unbiased answer? When you make the right decision, come on back and join the fun.
I was kinda in the same situation. I had just got my honda shadow where I wanted it. I had quite a few accesories in fact the same week I put my drivers backrest on I traded it in on the nomad. I knew I wanted the nomad because of the hard bags and I knew it would last a long time and deliver some happy memories and some good trips with my wife. I had the honda paid for but I had read a few articles really bragging the nomad up and felt it was worth the exta money. No regrets here.

Let me offer my unbiased suggestion. Yes, I ride a Nomad, but I've ridden other bikes too. Big mutha's..... 1st requirement - you must like big mutha's. This is a big mutha.... If you don't mind a bike a little larger than a Harley - about the same power, other than the latest 106" they've come out with, but if you're good enough you can out-ride most those guys anyway, and they won't know, cuz yer in front!
You said you didn't want to consider a Harley, but it's a benchmark along with the Yamaha Star stuff, and maybe Honda, which is hard to take.
All I know about Nomads, is if you get one, you'll be happy and exited to head out to one of the rallies coming up, like Nico.
By the way brother, if you don't get the Nomad, you can still buy one of the rally shirts. Get one for your spouse too!

I too had my VTX pretty loaded up with accessories when I got rid of it. My dealer gave me great money for my trade in, but the price wasn't affected any if I took off the accessories. So, I took the accessories off and sold them to a guy here in town, and still got great money for my trade in.
I just passed the 1000 mile mark tonight on my Nomad, which I bought three weeks ago. I thought I would miss my VTX, but I can honestly say that my Nomad is an even better bike than I hoped it would be. I would highly recommend getting it!

That's what I did with my Harley---take the Nomad and run.
All I can say is that when I sold the Volusia and bought the '07 Nomad, the FIRST ride, my wife went nuts over how comfortable and smooth the Nad was! We put 600 miles on it the first Saturday and Sunday we had it, and she was still ready to ride. I think you will notice 'just a little' difference! LOL!!!!

Just like many others here, I traded a C50 for my Nomad. Very happy with the Nomad.
I stripped the C50 and sold off the items on the VR and ebay. Trade would have been the same with or without the accessories.

Yep, gonna strip the Volusia....paid for the Nomad, told-em to put new tires on it and will pick it up next week, when I get the volusia back to stock.......now I got to let the wife know about...lol. She don't ride anymore....but she won't like me trading....have a trip to Sturgis planned, was gonna ride the Vol, but will be going in style now, just like my old Harley days back in the 90's. My bike before this Vol was a Ultra Classic 1990 Harley, but sold it about 1995...retired last year, got the Vol for a decent price, should have went bigger then.

great choice. My wife wanted to learn to ride and have her own bike, so she now has the C-50 and she bought me the 2008 Nomad. Which am happy to say both bikes are now payed off. I am having the best time ever on the Nomad great bike. You will be very happy
