The wife and I are thinking about moving soon. We currently live in San Diego, and I want to move somewhere where there's good riding.

So I wonder, what is everyone's opinion on where the best riding is around?

What places have you ridden through that you thought to yourself that that was the best riding you'd ever done?

I know everyone is different, maybe this will be a good opener to a debate on the topic..?

Don't know if I can give the best place, but three high criteria would certainly be

Year-round or near-year-round riding
Interesting roads and scenery
Little traffic

;)
My Criteria would be:
1- Quality Roads
2-Quality Scenery
3-Quality People
4- Four Seasons as I like Change
For me that all adds up to West Virginia http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

To be able to move based on "where there's good riding" must be one heck of a nice feeling.

One thing that I liked better about Utah, over Colorado, is that the mountains are right on the edge of the city in Utah. You didn't need to travel to get to the twisties.

It might not be worth moving to Utah, but its what I liked better there.

I also like the variety in Utah of alpine mountains, or desert red rock, within a few hours.

Central Sierra Mountains!

If you need to be in an area that has industry..Sacramento is awesome. It's outta the snow line but 1000's of miles of beautiful roads await you. If you don't need to live in a City then live in onbe of the smaller towns all along the Sierra foothills anywhere on Highway 49.

HA! If only that could be my only criteria... I'm up for orders soon, I'm looking for where to request, heh. It isn't my only criteria by a long shot, especially with a wife and new kid on the way, heh.

There is some very good riding in NC,VA,TN,SC,GA this area offers some of the best twisties in the country. Also has many parkways and skyway's that are great rides and you can ride on some of them for days. This area also offers the beaches, the outer Banks of NC, the VA tidewaters and The great city of Charleston and Savannah GA. Also who could leave out Myrtle Beach SC.
The mountains to the sea.

Ride safe where ever you may be!!

Well... assuming that the real criteria will be silly things like... property/sales taxes, price of housing, school systems, and over all good neighborhoods.... where to ride seems like the least of the worries!! LOL! I know I prefer the heat to the cold... so if you're the same you might want to stay further south... I love Texas, but Arizona is about the only other place I would want to live. Some good riding in both areas.... If being in Iraq has you wanting some cooler climate...then I'm sure WV or South Jersey...North East coast in general is some good places.... my 2cw..

I love the Pacific Northwest. It rains a lot but they make gear for that. I think almost every place has its own unique scenery.

I second that ... He should work for the visitor bureau.....

Where I am, I can be on the Blue Ridge Parkway and about 15-20 degrees cooler in an hour and 15 minutes: Can be on the NC coast in 3 hrs: Can be in Myrtle Beach in 3 1/2 hrs: Can be in the Virginia Mtns in about an hour and 15 minutes: Shenandoa Valley in around 2 or 2 1/2 hrs: Tennessee in a litte under 2 1/2 hours: South Carolina upstate in less than 2 hrs....

Can ya tell, I really like it here!!

I can get to the beach in about 3 days, unless reservoirs count, but then the surf doesn't amount to much.

Living in Clovis, which is more or less the gateway to Yosemite, the Sierra Nevada, the Sequoias, and Kings Canyon, I gotta agree.

Now it is hot here, so you gotta like the desert environment, but I haven't shoveled snow in 30 years. If I want to see snow, I can look out my window. To feel snow, I just have to start driving up any convenient mountain. To avoid snow is my norm. ;)

If only it were half as far to the ocean it'd be perfect, but then if we ever have a real earthquake that could happen.

On my list of "to do" rides is the Beartooth Highway, near Red Lodge Montana. I've been through there in a car, but never on a bike. I'd like to ride Berthaud Pass in Colorado, too. There's a lot of scenic highways around the Jackson Hole, Wyoming area as well. I guess I'm partial to the Rocky Mountains.

We got off on a wagon trail in the Sierra's this past weekend. 12 miles of twistie dirt roads. Sound good Dan?

Anywhere you want to be is great
Just get off the 4 lane and on to the back roads. See more stuff, meet more real people and enjoy life
Good luck
