The weather is finally in the 80's so I got to go without a jacket of some sort, put on my new grasshopper backrest and went out for a 50 mile twistie. It's always been jacket or coat weather so I really never noticed the heat coming off the engine. WOW, we've been talking about rusted nuts around here, but how about roasted? The fan never came on that I noticed, but the heat was making my legs sweat.

Love the backrest, it allowed me to lean back and enjoy the hiway bars. What's everyone else to to curb the heat? :-/

More throttle?

Your sig pics dont show engine guard chaps but if they are still on, I would remove them for more air flow. I use my highway pegs whenever possible, keeping my legs out waya from the heat of the engine. Since it hasn't gotten under 80 for lows here for the last week and the afternoon highs are mid 90's my fan is working whenever I have to stop at a light.

Heat? What heat? ::) Wait until the fan comes on in stop and go traffic at 110 degrees. That's heat! http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif Yes, it does give a whole new meaning to the word roasted. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I have a pair of Draggin jeans that are a little better than the regular jeans. Still gets awfully warm. I also have a pair of thicker textile pants, only they are more for the cooler weather or rain. I've heard some of the people use leathers. I have found my legs stay farther away from the tank to try and get air circulation on both sides.

The 80's were easy for the ones of us in the Southwest. Most of us were still wearing jackets because it was cold out. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif I could sure make a fortune if I could figure out how to make air conditioned pants now that summer is here. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

Beezer has the right idea, go for ice cream. In the meantime, never admit that there is heat. It must becoming from the SUV next to you at the intersection, or the HD that went buy a little bit ago. It can't possibly be coming off our Nomads. I do my best to convince my brain that it is not coming from my engine. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Riding in South Florida in the summertime I feel your heat!

Summertime rules: Never ride in stop and go traffic, always start your journey in the early morning hours, and think about snow covered mountains and being stranded in the Arctic circle. Mind over matter. ;)

Mind over matter. Just think of a flowing stream of cool mountain water cascading over your ? . http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif Or, I just go up on the Blue Ridge Parkway to higher elevations (3,000 ft.+) and ride in the summer time.

My wife and I rolled up 110 miles today along the Terrebonne Parish coast. No breaking surf where we rode today, just plenty of brackish water marsh. Ate lunch at CoCo Marina in Cocodrie. On the way home we could both feel the heat coming off of the blacktop. Checked the temp and humidity when we got home. 100 degrees F with relative humidity of 49%. Heat index came to 114 degrees. Not as hot as Arizona but the humidity was pretty bad. July - September brings daily humidity over 80%. The Florida guys know what I'm talking about. We'd welcome 80's with open arms....

I really don't notice the heat off the Nomad engine until it's in the upper 90's. I guess if you think that this is hot, hop on a harley. Go back to the Nomad and it will feel about 100 degrees cooler. Instead of roasted, they will be burnt.

My tank gets so hot it burns my legs. This is just from the engine heat, not the sun.

I'm hoping a TPS adjustment and enriching the air/fuel mixture may alleviate this somewhat.

One of my buds, our women, and a whole lot of "stuff" took a little ride through the Texas hill country a couple of weeks back. He on his Harley, me on the mighty Nomad. 2:30 in the afternoon, on a BRIGHT sunny day (translate hot!) we hit a traffic jam waiting for the wreck ahead to clear. Just before he asked if we would like to pull over and take a break to let it clear, I swear I could smell the aroma of 'chestnuts?' roasting in the air. Let em get stuck in a traffic jam and these Harley riders are not so tuff. Me, I checked out his bike and quit complaining.

Me and the wife went to Vegas a couple weeks ago and we rented an Ultra Classic for a day, and my Nomad doesn't even come close to throwing off the amount of heat that Classic was putting out. I thought my pants were going to catch on fire when we had to stop for lights.

I wear chaps 90% of the time, maybe they protect me from the heat.I also avoid riding in town if at all possible. At any rate I rarely feel uncomfortable when riding.

Harleys may run hotter. But, in South Fl. when its in the 90s and the sun is beating down, if you stop at a traffic light and the fan comes on you can hardly stay on the bike. I have heard that synthetic oil lets a Harley run about 30 degrees cooler. I dont know if this would help a Nomad or not being liquid cooled.

I wear mesh pants. They provide protection if I go down, but I also find they deflect a great deal of the engine heat. On a really hot day my legs are more comfortable with them rather than just jeans in town. Reverse is true on the highway, but the mesh is good there too. Of course then the drunks in bars say things like "watcha ridin, a snowmobile?" (There were no other bikes in the parking lot so the reply that came to mind was: Which bike is yours? The Chevy or the Ford? But I find it usually is prudent to not argue with drunk people.)

Synthetic oil helps but if your state is like MO any gas below 90 octane has a 10% ethonol mix and it will cause your bike to run hotter.

If you think the Nomad is hot try a H/D or even a Yamaha Rosdstar with Vance and Hines pipes that for us short folks will roast your legs.

Be glad you don't have a 96CI Harley. They are supposed to cook your legs. My advice is to ride faster.
