I have a couple friends with TC 88 roadglides and I have no trouble keeping up withy them, but the 96 should be better. The roadglide is a smaller and lighter bike though.

I could keep up with The TC88 Roadglide he traded in, but this new one is pretty fast.
Yeah maybe I'm a crummy rider too. I think I wind it out too far rather than keep it in the toque band.
So at what RPM is the perfect point to shift torquewise?
I looked at several Dyno Charts for the 1600 and it looks like Max torque is around 3200 RPM.
So to keep the Nomad in the torque band at what speeds should you shift.
Do you go over Max toque so that when you shift up a gear you're still near that top torque?
3200 RPM in...
1st - 24.4 MPH
2nd - 38.4 MPH
3rd - 51.3 MPH
4th - 63.3 MPH
5th - 78.2 MPH

considering the 1552 CC Nomad is 95 cubic inches I don't know why anyone thinks the 96 Harley is a considerably bigger engine.

i was wondering how they compare to the nomad as far as power goes.
Not sure but I think with the shaft the Nad weighs more, which could affect it.

Dry weights:
HD Street Glide - 749 lbs.
HD Road Glide - 752 lbs.
Nomad - 772 lbs.
If everything else is equal, less weight means faster.
Nomads are simply not as tightly tuned as Harleys are. This makes Harleys a little faster. This makes Nomads more reliable. (All other things being equal, which they really never are.)
Which one is more important to me? Well I ride to work virtually every day. I voted for reliable.

+1
The 96 is considerably bigger than the 88.
Check me if I'm wrong, but everything I have read shows that the HD 96u.in has LESS hp than the 88 cu. in. Stock! Not with Screaming Eagle this and that.....

My brother in-law just bought a new Ultra Glide Classic, it's a beautiful bike but he says if he gets caught in traffic or a long red light his over heats so bad it will almost shut down. He took it to the HD dealer and they told him, yea they do that and for him to put an oil cooler on it. Yea right $1,400.00. The mechanic told him that HD just bored out the 88 to create the new 96 and they will not dissipate the heat.
Has anybody heard of this?

I bought my Kawa because I've had many Kawas in the past. Very reliable, very affordable and very nice looking. The looks set it apart from others, I think. I've never cared whether it would beat another bike in a race. It carries the wife and I and all her stuff ( which can be extensive) for extended vaca's and does it comfortably. I, like you folks, get a lot of nice comments about the Nomad when we stop somewhere. makes me feel good to hear it.

No question about it it is one great bike. People always ask about the bike no matter where I go. And, yes a lot think it's a Harley.

I think the harleys handle the heat well, they stress test about everything on the bike and i was told by the dealer here in az that they test them here to make sure they dont have over heating problems and that the rear cyclinder shuts down to act as a cooling system. just my 2 cents.

What I heard is that they put a real lean map in the ECU to get the bikes to pass the smog tests, and now the dealers are re-mapping the ECU's when people go in to complain.

Tell your Brother Inlaw to go on the Ultra Classic forum on Delphi. There are a few guys there that know there stuff on HD's, They can probably help him out.
