My cruise control has stopped working 3 times but every time I go to take it in it starts working again. I have been told the switches might be dirty but I have no idea where they are located? Any info that can be given would be greatly appreciated, Jack

The brake switches, clutch switch and kickstand switch are good places to start.

Start with the rear brake switch, it is right there by the pedal. It seems to be the most common culprit. Just loosen it up a bit so it does not trigger quite so soon.

Brake switch is the common culprit on my Voyager . . . Next time it happens, come to a stop . . . Once stopped, hit the brake hard and release it fast three or four times . . . Then try it . . .this generally knocks whatever was causing it to fall free . . .IF that doesn't work . . .come to a stop, and get down on your knees and give it a blow (the switch that is!), if'n you happen to have a can of WD-40 - give it a shot as well . . . This switch is located right under the brake lever . . .

Did what was said,pumped brake and sprayed WD40 and it worked. Thank you all for your help, Jack

Cruise control and Gear indicater seem to be a common problem on the 1700's thay don't stop working thay just don't work right all the time.

My fix for the gear indicator has been to just apply light upward pressure with my toes against the shift peg . . . that seems to get it straightened out most every time . . . Of course, sometimes I'm just lazy and wait it out . . . eventually it gets it right.

That works for me to after 1 or 2 tries also can let off on the throttle a bit but most times I just wait it out.

For the gear indicator my dealer wanted to replace the spring inside, under warranty, I am not going to bother as the bike would be down for at least a week, the engine has to be removed and basically taken apart. For the minor annoyance of not indicating the correct gear above 3rd, I figure it was not worth the hassle. I have the extended warranty so before that is up I may look at having it done.

Dirty contacts in the clutch and front brake switches are common, remove the switches, find the access hole for the contacts and give them a good cleaning.

Their is a threaded adjuster for the rear brake switch. It is a small Phillips type screw with a 7mm lock nut, I have had to adjust mine.
