I know the owners manual states 5.3 Gallons. Does anyone know first hand if the tank will take 5+ gals while filling the bike on the side stand or would the bike have to be perpendicular to really get the full capacity. Knowing the correct info could make the difference between making it to the next gas station or having to walk there.

On the 1600's filling with it on the side stand will get the most fuel in the tank.
Easy enough to find out for the Voyager. Fill it on the side stand as full as you can get it. Then, with the cap off, slowly start to stand it up. Keep an eye on the fuel level in the tank as you bring it up. If the level drops as you straighten it up, then you can get more in with the bike upright. If the level starts to rise as you straighten it up, then you get the most in with it on the side stand.

Looking at pictures of the Voyager my guess would be with the bike upright since the filler is in the center of the tank.
I like my 1600 Nomad with the filler on the side as that works great when on the kickstand.

I can get more in the tank on my Voyager if the bike is upright. I fill it to the bottom off the neck of the tank and get around 270 kms before the low fuel light comes on.
Less if I am on the highway at 110 kmph.

..Early on, after buying my 02 Nomad..I learned a lesson on fueling up...being in a hurry (to keep up with some "big guy's")..I filled hung the hose on the pump...jumped aboard, and brought the bike upright..with the fuel cap still open...I flung about a quart of gasoline out and right on the hot exhaust pipes...
...It didnt ignite..thank the god's that screw with me !

Hey RedJay how many miles you got on? I have a 14 Voyager with 5500Kms and I don't that much mileage unless i am on the side roads. On the highway I get less miles. You going to Port Dover tomorrow?

You guys get a lot less mileage on the highway? Hadn't noticed a huge difference on the 1700 Nomad. Had to laugh last weekend we were on the highway for a bit and stopped to fill up. My Nomad burned .5 litre less than the wife's 650 Vstar. First time I ever took less than her!!
