Okay I am a newbie on the site, as I finally obtained my dream luxo-barger....the venerable Vaquero. I live out in central Oregon in the high desert, with lots of waaaay open roads to the east, or head west, and you're right in the Cascade mountains on your way up into alpine country and snow covered volcanoes. We are 20 clicks from Mt. Bachelor the famous ski peak. People out here are mainly Harley riders but no one gives me any flack about my kaws. Tomorrow Saturday My Kaw bagger, a new Honda something that used to be the ST1300 with the nose cut off, and about 4 Harleys.... out for a 150 mile loop in the sun....we don't care what you ride, it is who you are that counts.
I am a retired Nam era vet with disability but still fit at 60 and going like stink. I would love to know there are other vets riding Kawasakis on this forum. I have been a member of another kawasaki rider's forum now for over 3 1/2 years about our Meanstreak 15s and 1600s as a senior member. Time to start anew again with the 1700. I built houses all my life and my joints got a little tweaked over the years, but the Vaquero is one comfy plush place to be, especially with Kuryakyn iso grips and the Mustang vintage one peice seat with driver backrest. I am still getting used to the electric cruise for the first time on a bike and loving it on those open traffic free highways we have out here. If there are any other members on this site that are Pacific NW-sterners, please chime in. Other wise, looking forward to getting to know some of you guys who ride big Kawasaki baggers! Looking forward to all the great info that is available on this forum.....time to share again. Peace to all and great riding this summer season!

A Texas sized welcome from a Persian Gulf, U.S.N. vet, riding a 1999 1500 Nomad G. Thank you for your service to our country. My dad served in Vietnam as well as several good friends of mine. You and all the other vets on this forum have my utmost respect. Wish you many safe and joyous miles on your Vaquero. Great bike.

This is too cool.....I had no idea that so many veterans ride Vulcans! That says something about the bikes we ride. I know vets here in my hometown but most of them ride....of course, good ol' Harleys. But my hat goes off to all you guys who served our country. Vala! Now to vacuum leak issues, might be time to contact Thunder Mfg. and order that TB gasket. wish me luck!
