My wife wants a bigger bike but the Nomad is just too much for her to handle safely. She looked at a new Kawasaki 900 custom and liked it. Does anyone have one and if so, what do you think about it?
Thanks,

A friend of mine has one. It is the same color as my Nomad. I call her Mini Me. It has been a real good bike for her. She loves it.

My 2 cents,, If the NOMAD is TOO MUCH for her then YOU are doing the right thing in looking smaller,THE SAFE thing to do.....YOU can Bag the 900 w.Leather or Hard Bags like www.tsykayu.com (http://www.tsykayu.com) bags.add a shield and your baggin it http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
NOW the 900 my Buds son had a 07 900 CUSTOM,,, NICE bike, FAST,rides good,,, ALSO go to the KAWASAKI VULCAN Forums od Delfi.. THEY are MULTI Models Kaws, and the 900 is there.several people have them,,,,, and if your wife is short SCOOTWORKs make s a lowering kit .........SHE should like it .easy to handleand FUN to DRIVE http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif Rich

A fella I know had a Nomad and traded it in on a 900 Vulcan. He found the Nomad too heavy and awkward for what he needed, and got the 900, and loves it . Its lighter and easier to manouver, it suits his purpose very well now.
Have her get Vulcan 900 Classic and dress it... or get the LT model!
The Boulevard C-50 is nice if you'd rather have shaft drive.... the 900's are belt.

A friend of mine has a Vulcan 900 Classic and really likes it. He previously owned a Honda Shadow 1100 and was concerned about switching to a smaller bike, but he says that the Vulcan has more zip and power than the Shadow did. He's about 5'9", and he likes the smaller size of the Vulcan as well.

I traded a 900 Custom for my Nomad. Great bike. I bought the custom instead of the classic for the following reasons: 1) Mag wheels (I hate cleaning spokes). 2) I liked the lines and color (plasma blue) of the bike better and since I was planning mainly solo riding, it was the thing. I added engine guard and a memphis shades sportshield (blue). Very stable ride and comfortable position - I think it would be a good bike for a smaller rider. It was powerful enough to get me out of any situation, but not so powerful as to be a problem for a new rider. I miss the 52mpg I was getting too! I traded because I decided to sell my car and commute to work on my bike (needed bags and a trunk), plus my wife decided she wanted to ride with me.

You didn't mention what your wife has for a bike already. The way you worded it made it a little confusing and I think some people thought she had a Nomad and wanted something smaller. Also, how tall is your wife? That'll give the guys n' gals a better idea of what to recommend.

I have two friends here in town that have the 900 LT's and they are a great bike. Excellent power, not to heavy and will cruise all day on the super slabs with no problems. Not to mention 50+ MPG. Oh yeah Fuel injection is a snap to, just turn on ingnition and press the start button. My wifes 800 Classy well being carbed took her a while to get use to having to choke it and remmeber to shut it off later once the engine warmed up.
Your wife will love the 900.
I would opp for the LT just because it comes with bags, shield, and other acc's rather than the custom.

Yes, Nico has a point. The C50s are great bikes. I also like the Yamaha Star 650s too and they make great mid range tourers.

There are loads of people on this forum that have them and they all seem to really like the mid size Vulcan (800 or 900). This might be a great place to find some of your answers.

There just isn't very many Nomad guys here, but it's still a really good forum for the Vulcan.

My sister in-law has the 2007 900LT. She moved up from a Yamaha 650. She loves the 900LT and will be riding it to Sturgis with us.

One thing folks fail to mention. It is not necessarily always about your height but your inseam. I have a few acquintanances (guys) who are taller than me but actually a little more vertically challenged than you would think because of short inseam. So you have to sit on the bikes your considering to see how you touch the ground. Just my .02 cents worth.
I don't have the 900 but do have an 800 and it is a world of difference from the Nomad in its "garage maneuverability." I think either the VN800 or 900 would make great bike for someone who appreciates many of the aspects of a Nomad but find them a little bit too much on size and or bulk.
And despite its higher RPM, they will run well along with a Nomad as far as speed and are also very smooth.

My wife has a Candy Plasma Blue 900 Custom 2007 model. It is her first bike. She took the class, has put 1200 miles on the Custom in 10 weeks or so. She is a natural as far as I can tell, but I can assure you she LOVES her bike. It fits her well, builds her confidence and more important to her, Looks good on her. She wanted a svelt, clean bike without the bags, flat windshields and bulk. We outfitted the bike with Crash Bars and a pullback windshield...it provides very little protection, and she rides "into the wind" much more than I do. We will probably get a more covering windshield in the fall. My best friend is now my best riding partner. She wears a Pink Joe Rocket Cleo jacket because it "goes with the blue"....plans are to add pink flames. It's clearly a girls bike...
Motorcycles should be an emotional purchase, if it doesn't pull at her heart, it's not the right bike.
I've ridden her bike several times and prefer the Nomad, but that's probably attributed to my size.

My wife has a Honda 750 spirit. She is not very tall but this bike fits her perfectly. It has low seat height, fairly light and plenty of power. She looked at the 900 custom but wasn't comfortable on it. I think the best thing to do is go to different bike shops and look at the options. I'm sure she will find something.
