Good Looking Lady... :>) Ish leib Da Fraulien's
As for the bike...Harley made a rare-few "flat twins" for the US Military..but most were abandoned in the desert of North Africa after Rommel slaughtered our boys..at The battle Of Kasserine Pass (my info may be inaccurate as to where the Harley Flat twins are)
I cant ID the bike in the photo tho !

Without researching it, I believe it is a Zundapp.
I cannot tell what year/model yet though. Likely 30'/40's model.
One tell-tale feature of Zundapp's are their fork design. No bike has quite the same, and this bike has Zundapp forks and shocks look just like some of the Zundapp models.

... but then again, a 1940-41 NSU model looks like a dead ringer for this motorcycle.
Do you know the year this was taken?

I cannot find a NSU model to match this exactly; but the front fender is a classic NSU as well as the muffler tips -- which are definitely just like NSU used to make their tips.

Ok, I have to say for the record, that if your not familiar with British bikes, this is like finding a needle in a haystack. I don't know how many people know how many British bike Marques there actually were, but as the owner of one of the rare ones, I can tell you that there are a LOT ( http://cybermotorcycle.com/euro/britain.htm). The stamped front forks didn't come into play until the early-mid 30's that I know of, and 2 years ago I could have gotten close, but its been a long while since I was researching the British bikes. You can see some examples on the link above............if you have time.
Also, there were a lot of bikes pieced together from various part manufacturers. For instance, JAP and Villiers made engines for many bikes (kind of like putting a B&S or Tecumseh on a push mower). Its really hard to say.

I'm struggling with this one. Forks look Zundapp but motor looks NSU.
In other words, I don't know :hmm:

I have no clue what you are talking about. Why are you mentioning British bikes. This bike is German through and through... :hmm:

I agree with you. Forks look just like a classic Zundapp. At first glance that is what I thought it was; however, to me, the front fender and pipe-tips are classic NSU.
Regarding the motor, Zundapp made a similar motor, although its bottom-end casing is different than this bike.
The problems with looking-up either brand is the fact there simply are not too many around, nor their records -- I assume given the devastation from WWII.

It looks similar to the Jawa but I think this is a single. The photo of Opa and Oma shows a pipe on the left side of the bike. Maybe it was a twin port single ? Or an Ariel motorcycle. They had stamped forks on some models.

Similar, but not the same bike in each picture. Front fender and forks are different.

Yes, I think it's a one cylinder with duel exhaust.
The front fender is not like a Zundapp??
Even the front forks look a little different?
The more I look into it, the more I don't think its a Zundapp!
This bike is very puzzling.

This bike is very puzzling.
If you research NSU bikes, they had this exact same fender; where the inside tip flares out. The flare is very similar, if not exactly like some models of NSU bikes. I am not aware of any Zundapp with a front fender like this one. Zundapp's I am aware of have front fender trailing edges without flares to them.
However, no where have I found an NSU with forks exactly like that. Ah... the mystery begins.
The Zundapp, however, has that type of forks (fork covers actually) on several models.
The engine design is similar for both companies in some of their models; thus I look at other features of the engine, like the lower casing for example. In this situation, it resembles a Zundapp, but does not match what I can find so far.
Another feature is the tailpipe tips. Zundapp, NSU, and a couple companies had similar tip designs; however when looking closely at this bike, its tips resembles the tips found on some Zundapp models.
So far this bike is a mystery to me, but I always like a challenge and will keep looking. It may take a while to discover what it is...

You guys are assuming that the bike in the pic is stock and maybe it is. But just a thought here. My mum often talked about about bikes my grandfather put together for his own use around the war years in England. He called them bitsers, cause they were usually bits of several bikes to make one good one.
I kind of did the same when I was young. My first bike was a Yamie and I put fenders on from a Suzuki cause in my mind they looked better.

Yes, this is what I am having trouble with.
The forks could be Zundapp??
The motor,....well they all look alike.
The fender is defiantly is NSU!
The passenger seat could be Zundapp or NSU, well it could be a lot of different bikes.
Is this bike original,...............I would say knowing my wife's relitives, YES!
The photo was taken in Ostpreussen.
Thanks

That's a rare Rolls Canardly. Very few ever made. It had a serious performance flaw - rolls down one hill, canardly make it up the other!
