With Oldbikers defection to the Harley side, I got to wondering...IF I had to switch scoots, what would be your three choices?
If I couldn't have my Nomad I would choose:
1. Victory Vision (in red)
2. Harley Road Glide
3. Yamaha Venture
That's mine, what's yours?

Ultra Classic Electra Glide or Venture http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

It would be an Ultra Classic. I took one for a test ride a couple weeks ago, and really liked the way it handled compared to the Nomad. It didn't have as heavy a feel to it, Something to think about when Im too old to hold up the Nomad.

Goldwing with Nav or an Ultra Classic; and don't really have a 3rd choice, but I plan on staying with my Nad for a long while to come!

My choice,
The Ultra Classic (W /Tall Boy set up)
Road Glide (W /Tall Boy set up)
The Vision is nice from the rear seat forward. IF I could get ot W/O the Rear luggage set up that would be a choice..
BUT I love the way the NOMAD rides,, Kaw needs to updatea few things like MPG/Noise/Paint/Chrome all need to be alittle better..

I'm with Idaho on this one. There isn't any other bike out there with the value, dollar for dollar , as the Nomad.

Assuming price is no object?
1. Victory Vision or Honda Goldwing (jury still out on this)
2. Royal Star Venture
3. Harley Ultra Classic Electra Glide
Yes folks, I've reached that stage in life where comfort and convenience is the major consideration.

My choices today, might be different next week.
BMW's luxotourer, what ever it's called.
Kawi Concours
Kawi KLR
BTW, I can easily think of having other bikes. That's why I subscribe to 4-5 bike magazines. I doubt I will get a different one, I've gone with Nomads for 9 years. But I don't mind thinking about other bikes at all.
Ideal would be about 3-4 bikes at one time. The Nomad being one of them.

Victory Vision or Goldwing. But I promised my wifer I would keep the Nad for 5 years.
"Had to switch"?
If I simply "had to" I can't imagine a circumstance where I'd be able to upgrade to a more expensive bike, or even make a lateral move. If I had to sell the nomad and get a cheap bike just to continue riding it'd be a used KLR650. Best value in a big enduro. Goes anywhere, good gas mileage, plenty of pep around town.
Now given my 'druthers, I will eventually own three more bikes in addition to a Nomad.
The Kawasaki 1400 Concours
The Vulcan 2000 touring model (still waiting for them to make one)
The Kawasaki KLR 650
I'm strictly a Team Green guy now, and there'll be no Harleys or Goldwings in my future.

+1
Went through all that before I got the Nomad. Its either Nomad or I wouldn't be here. Although, I do like all the warm fuzzies that go with the deal.

How about a Ultra Glide Nomad 2000 Venture. Fully loaded in all colors. But Red/Silver would still be the fastest. With a free 5 year bumper to bumper warranty. With a free gas card for 5 years of fuel. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
OH!!! Geeez, sorry got carried away there.

I have the 08 concours and its great except for the leg room and its ability to get tickets in a hurry

Right now the only bike I would ride is a Nomad. But I would trade it in, in a heart beat if Kawasaki came out with a 09 Nomad Full Dresser, Loaded.

The only thing better than a Nomad is a NEW Nomad set up with;
electronic cruise control
Premeux fairing w/sound system, lowers & tourpack
second bike would be:
Suzuki V-Strom 650 to bomb around all the dirt roads I don't dare take my Nomad on

Hmm. If I had to downsize I would look at the 900 Vulcan Touring or Yamaha 1100 Star Silverado.
I also like the previous version of the Concourse. ( Not the ZX14 version. )
And I LOVE the KLR650. Brand new they are 5300.00. Bargain.

Let me expound upon my short message. Victory motorcycles are nice, but they are air cooled with belt drive and not as many standard features as the Nomad and a lot more expensive. The Yamaha Venture has a lot of great features but it breathes through four individual carbs. I wanted FI and V-twin. Suzi has a great engine and transmission in the C109RT but the classic style pipes limit the size of saddlebags, no case guards, no Lowers, no dresser bars. Lots of smooth power but nothing else there. Harley is, well Harley. Too pricey, air cooled belt drive and shakes like crazy. Beemer style touring bikes are too cramped. My long legs need room to stretch, don't like to ride hunched over. That only leaves the Nomad. Great value. No drag bike but it goes fast enough to get me into trouble if I don't pay attention.

My sentiments exactly. Great minds MUST think alike! (I wouldn't mind having a chopper in adition to the nomad just for fun)

Hmmm... let's see... I would choose 3 different bikes for different purposes....
I Like the Goldwing for comfort
I Like a good custom Chopper for fun
If I had to choose a HD...maybe the V-rod...or a custom version of one.
But I'm GLAD I've Got The Nad!! LOL!
