Succumbed to the lure of Dan L's report of the Lookout Rd ride, I suggested that I could meet him for a noontime ride to repeat that run. For lunch today we had a feast of hairpin turns and views over the eastern plains of Colorado that would blow you away. We met at the base of Lookout Mountain and proceeded upward. I was concerned that I would not be able to master the curves as well as Dan and suggested that if he led I might fall behind but if I led he would not get the enjoyment he was there for. Made sense that he would lead and I would keep up the best I could. At each tight, and I mean TIGHT, curve his entry speed speed was just what I could handle. All the way up, hairpin after hairpin I had no problem keeping up. Except for a couple sudden tight U-turns on the narrow two lane road, but with ample visibility, I was right behind him all the way. Up and down the run it was a great time. And as I suspected and he subtly let me know, he had led through the maze that makes up Lookout Rd at a pace he thought I could handle. So, we made it back to the bottom, back in suburban Golden and said our farewells. Then, Dan says, "I going to do it again." and he heads back up ( I hope he didn't look for shortcuts on the way back down). By then I was out of time for my extended lunch-hour so headed back to the grind of my job about 25 minutes away. Dan was last seen heading back up the Mt and I'm sure at a pace that exceeded ours earlier, which had been at a lot-of-floor- board-dragging pace . Check out Dan's original post on the Lookout Rd ride for details of the road, There are a lot of twisties leading into the Rockies from the eastern plains but this is the best of what I've seen.

PS Went out out on the town with my wife for a warn up to the Memorial Day weekend before having time to write this up so hope it all comes across okay.

Thanks for a good ride Dan.

Once again, Ells is a very competent rider. He is experienced enough not to get pushed into going too fast to keep up with the guy in front of him, and on some corners I expected to look in the mirror and not see him, as it was a fairly aggressive corner. I'd look in the mirror and he was right behind me.

Some of my Harley friends go so slow it takes the fun out of it riding and waiting for them. Perhaps its a Nomad thing :)

Here are some pictures I took on our ride.

We pulled over to let somebody going slower get up ahead of us.

It's hard to imagine that any of Ells coworkers had a better lunch than he did :)

If anyone else is ever up for a lunch ride, hit me up.

Glad you two had a good time. I wonder if I could get a 6 hour lunch break (2.5 there 1 hour lunch ride, 2.5 to get home) ::).

I wish we had more twisties in this area (Ells knows). At least I can say I can take most of our twisties at 80+ mph. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif.

The fourth pic down, you are taking a pic in your mirror while approaching a SHARP left hand turn. I admire your riding ability http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I kinda expected to see knobby tires and an upturned exhaust on one of the bikes. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif It looks like a great place to spend an afternoon.
