You may have to go into your paypal account and make the credit card the primary account.

It does sort of sound like a PayPal issue. But contact Lonnie, he owns Grasshopper. He is a great guy, I've ridden with him. He'll treat you right. His email is bf4cm28@yahoo.com

I've got one and have had NO problems with it! As far as the credit card via paypal.... that's a paypal issue. You need to go into your account info and place a credit card on file and have it set as a primary. Being that I've used it for ebay for over 5-6 years now...I've gotten to know the paypal system pretty good.

Mine works perfect. It may and may not be at the perfect angle to where you sit but you can "pursuade" it in a strong bench vice and mold the shape for a perfect fit!! You don't need it to have adjustable knobs because it's your bike not a community bike..

Mine arrived last week & we took a 288 mile ride on Saturday w/o any back pain. It's a great product & an EZ install. Delivery was 10 days to California & install time was 5 minutes.
As to the Pay-Pal issue, look somewhere on the page for the word "change". When you click on this it allows you to change your type of payment from your bank account to a credit card you have registered with them. For some reason Pay-Pal prefers to make your bank account the default payment, but, you can change to a credit card payment with some effort. -Rich

Anyone have a link for the Grasshopper backrest?

Here you go: http://www.grasshopperlimited.com/
It's on my maybe list. Has anyone used it with a lowered saddle (like from the guy at http://greatdaytoride.com/Home_Page.php) ? I definitely will want to have my saddle a little bit lowered, just wondering if it affects the fit and comfort of the grasshopper.

Hey there,
Does anyone find that this backrest keeps you too far forward in the saddle. I kind of mocked up the passenger backrest to see how it would fit and feel. I felt pushed fwd. a bit. In Grasshopper's picture for the Nomad, the backrest seems to sit fwd.. I'm wondering about your comments Blowendodge CME. Is it hard to adjust and is that why you took yours to the vice ???

Got mine and the chuckster 2" riser extensions. Both are great. AND both people are great too.
Got to support ourselves, instead of mega catalog taiwan stuff.

I did feel pushed forward a bit but give it a chance, I found it made me sit in a better position. I did thousands of miles with that setup including several 800+ mile days.
The backrest pad is supported by a piece of flat steel bar about 3 inches wide. If it doesn't fit you perfectly you can bend the bar slightly to fit your body/posture.

When I put mine on, I too felt pushed forward but realized it was because I was slouching while riding. Since I have been riding with it, I feel 100 percent better. I only take it off if my female passenger of the day feels disconnected from me or uncomfortable. Some are ok, some not. I can only ride a short time without it though.

I also bought one recently, made well and as mentioned above keeps you from slouching. No regrets about buying it!

I just ordered one yesterday.....Looking forward to getting it soon.
Never had a backrest before on any bike. Most people really do like em.
The Grasshopper Backrest seems to be one heck of a good deal. Hope I'll be satisfied...Most others seem to be.

Sorry BD but I got to differ. I have an adjustable rest. I like the fact that I can move it forward or back and up and down to get the perfect fit for me. When I first put it on it was to high and to far forward. Now it is exactly where it fits comfortable.
Not saying anything against Lonnie's product. If he were making them for the Nomad when I bought mine I would have tried his first. Might have saved myself 250 dollars http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

found the backrests on ebay- paypal worked just fine there, just not on the grasshopper web page. Dont know why. But cost an extra $13 for shipping, but hey it sounds like it will be worth it.

Question now is.....Now that you got it exactly where it fits comfortable...Do you ever move it anymore now.
I guess that once you get the Grasshopper Backrest bent and pursueded (if needed) exactly where you want it....you should not have to move it anymore...
I can do that to save myself $250+ on a backrest.

I have one and love it. To get the maximum use out of it I would install at least 2 or 3 inch straight risers or pullback risers if you have shorter arms since the stock bars have most people reaching. Bringing the bars back an inch or two allows you to lean back just a little more.

Just ordered the back rest tonight. Can't wait to get it installed and try it out. Now, about those risers. Which risers do most people use on there Nomads? I have fairly long arms. I am 6'4" so I have a good reach. I think I need to adjust my handle bars anyway, when I turn sharp the grips hit my knees. But some risers would probably help too.
If I was you, I would go with the 2 or 3 inch straight risers from chuckster. Most people go with Phat II risers from scootworks or Aeromach risers. These two brands will give you additional pullback bringing the bars even closer to you. Keep in mind that even if you go with straight risers the bars will still come a little closer to you as they follow the angle of the rake as they rise. I'm 6'2" and I like my 3 inch straights from chuckster. I had the same problem with the bars hitting my knees. You can raise the bars slighlty in the stock risers but not much because the angle of the grips will change, leaving you wrists in an awkward position.

Thanks for the info. I think the 3" risers would work fine. How is the best way to contact chuckster and order a set. How hard are they to put on? And do you know what he's getting for a 3" set?

Hey if I buy lunch, will you buy the risers http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
his email is chuckster1_31@comcast.net. I think they were around 50 or 60 bucks. Very easy to install: Carefully pop the chrome caps of the stock riser bolts lay a towel down over the tank and the rest is self explanitory you might need an extra hand holding the bars as you tighten everything back up. Hardware is included

I'm 6'2" and put a set of Chuckster's two inch risers on a few weeks ago and my back has never felt better, at least for 180 mile rides. With two inch risers, I had no problem with cable length. That can become an issue with some of the longer units.
These are some riser pictures that Chuckster has posted on one of his photo web sites:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/chuckster1/sets/72157600719214641/
I paid $46 total for the two inchers. Well worth it!

Wolfman,
I was lookin at the risers from Chuckster and it appears they are combined with and extend the existing risers on the bike. It would seem that this would make a set of 2 inch risers from Chuckster about the same length overall as the Phat II 4 inchers. I saw where you have the 3 inch version from Chuckster. Did you have to adjust cables with the 3 inch risers from Chuckster? Any problems with the hadlebar hitting the gas tank with the 3 inch risers? Thanks Bro, Semper Fi.

Here's a pic of his work:
http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc218/slhanks4/hosted_photos/image004-3.jpg
For reference they are the same dimensions as a 3/4 inch deep socket (1/2 inch drive) so if you have one laying around you can see how big they are. You can also use sockets for risers its just that the middle hole is oversized. I didn't have to reroute any cables or wiring and there is no problems with the bars hitting the tank (they actually gave me more clearance) His riser is just a spacer that goes in between the stock riser and the tripple trees.

I'd just like to add Joe (that's Chucksters real name)is excellent to deal with. I bought the 2" from him and decided they were not high enough for me. I'm 5' 11" I emailed him and he asked for my phone number. We talked for about 15 min. He is sending me a set of 3" to try. Hows that for service http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
