Today I became the extremely proud owner of a brand new, 2007 Vulcan 1600 Nomad in metallic diablo black. The dealer gave me a very decent trade-in on my 2005 C50T. The 14 mile ride home from the dealer was exhilerating! The difference between the 2 bikes is like comparing a Chevy to a Cadillac. Nothing against the Boulevard, it is what it is. The Nomad shifts so smoothly and doesn't "clunk" into gear, and that big v-twin doesn't even breathe hard in city traffic. This is the start of a long, beautiful relationship.

I've been lurking around here for several days, reading up n what Nomad owners had to say about their bikes, and only created an account yesterday to ask a few questions and discuss fishing with one member. A large part of my decision to go Nomad was based on what I've read here. Thanks to all of you! I hope to see some of you around and do some riding.

Oh, and thanks for the hearty welcomes to the forum.

Way to go CJ! Are you ever going to be a happy man! That Nomad will tend to want to get away from you on the highway. If I don't keep an eye on the speedo, it's up into noman's land very quickly! AZ aint too far away for our west coast get...

Awesome news CJ....!! I just brought home a sweet 2001 FI Nomad today, and dodged a few t-storms up here in Minnesota for about a 2 hour ride tonight. The Nomad is just a little different than the VF700C Magna I've been driving.....Holy Crap! What a nice ride!

Same move I made up from a C50. They're both good values.

Good deal CJ. You're hooked now for sure. ::)
Cousin of mine has an ebony black Nad and a red
HD/UC. Rides the Nad on trips and the HD for
short rides. Tells you something right there.
Ride safe,
Dano

Took the Nomad out for its first real ride this morning, did about 100 miles, driving under break-in conditions. All I can say is she's all I hoped for and then some. Smooth ride, more power than I could ever imagine. The transmission is so quiet, you can barely hear it change gears. The stock seat is extremely comfortable. I am so happy I made the move!

Congrats cactusjack! I had my 600 mile break-in maintenance completed on Friday. The wife and I just got back from taking our 2007 its first overnight voyage. We had an awesome time. I am around 850 now http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

Break in period, you you're supposed to take it easy in the beginning?

Break in period, you you're supposed to take it easy in the beginning?

I have been carefully following the break-in recommendations. I haven't taken it on the interstate yet, just state roads, varying my RPMs and speed.

I am told that those break-in recommendations are extremely important and I've followed mine to a "T".

I laughed at the 500-1000 mile restrictions because it is what I call "normal cruiser riding." The maximum speed should not exceed 80 MPH... http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif -- I have never seen a speed limit above 65 MPH in Virginia and they are only on the interstate...LOL. Ofcourse, there is that 10 mph cushion that some believe in. BUT...I always start writing at 13 http://s2.images.proboards.com/angry.gif:(" title=">:(" border="0"/>

I am happy to say that my Nomad passed with flying colors when I had the 600 mile maintenance completed on last Friday. I am sitting at 834 now so I am not too far off that 1000 mark. The Nomad continues to be my best motorcycle purchase.

I am now happily thinking of what accessories I want. I definitely want the highway pegs and, after a brief 200 mile overnight trip, will also probably purchase the rear luggage rack. The Garmin motorcycle GPS is on my wish list (wife said think Christmas and tell everyone that I want to pool the money).

It feels like your "short shifting" the bike, doesn't it?! That was driving me crazy! BUT...it will purr like a kitten once you get that 1st 600 mile maintenance performed. It feels unleashed now.

Congrats CJ! I still don't know the experience of riding off the lot with a brand spank me new bike but I know how I felt when I first saw the love of my motorcycle life! My 2001 still takes my breath away. We have gone about 5000 miles since May. Although it hasn't been perfect, I can't blame the bike for bad service work in the past. She more than makes up for it on the road!

Enjoy the love affair!

Ride Safe.

Hello Catusjack! Congratulations on the new Nomad purchase. I know you will love this bike as I have been riding a new to me Nomad (2005 Blue & Silver) one I picked up about 3 months ago. The bike I purchased had 72.1 miles on it when I bought from the original owner. I can tell you that the bike will become smoother and more powerful as you put it through the first 1,000 miles. Welcome to the forum and enjoy all the great people who hang out here. Doug

Excellent choice! Congrats!
I have to admire your taste. All I've found to improve my black 07 is more lighting. You will have a bunch of miles on that sucker before you know it. We picked up ours the second week of March. I took the whole month of Aug. off after I hit the side of an SUV and broke my leg. (his fault) and I've still been able to rack up a little over 7000 so far. You will find out just like the rest of us have, you can't stay off that Nomad! You will find yourself like http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif all the time.
