I've heard that once the money's out of your pocket it stops hurting so much. I know that wasn't cheap. For what it's worth, awesome looking wheel. You're going to get triple takes wherever you go. Wow indeed.

So true I put the wheel and bars on from Roaring toyz... It has been so cold here so I needed something to do... I went for a short ride today since it was 39 out and I did get a few more head turns.. I love the look now never really liked the front wheel..

So is that mod sold as a "kit" with the fender riser and such, or do you have to piece a kit together? What size wheel is that?

I want the apes, but I am afraid I wont be able to extend the cables and wires right.

maybe some of those head turns were because it was 39 degrees oustside and your riding a motorcycle....
nice Vaq, like the blue.

The wheel and fender risers are a kit and really simple to do.. the wheel comes already mounted with tire and the adaptors for the OEM breaks. only thing you need to due is mount the rotors and transfer the dust covers for the bearing from your old wheel. Really easy..
Trrust32
01-13-2014, 01:28 PM
For the Apes this is a little more challenging but still DIY.. I did have issues because I used 18 gage wire which was to thick. 20 to 24 gage is what I would recommend. the Roaring toyz kit does come with new break lines and clutch line. If you planning to do this mod make you cut the wires at various lengths so all the splices are not in the same location.. OH yeah make sure you number each wire on both ends...

Thanks for the info, may have to spring for that when my other stuff is all done. It looks like you have the KQR seat mount on your bike painted to match in the plazma blue, is that custom painted or am I seeing things?
Bike looks sweek BTW, nice work. I am curious how you like the apes after a long ride.

WOW  that looks great, Love the wheel and the handlebars. I know some guys that have done this mod lowered the front of the bike afterward to try to retain stock handling characteristics, did you, or did you leave the front fork springs stock? How did it ride on your "short" ride? On another note, I've always loved that blue, its a awesome color. Both of your mods are on my "to-do list".

I did lower the front forks about 5/8" by moving them up the the fork tree. but I have also modifed a harley rear shock lowring kit to lower the back also. This mod is not pretty but we made it work.. Some day I plan converting an Air dragger system to work. The only issue with lowering the front and the wheel conversion is that there is potential of the OEM blinkers hitting the fender.. I have removed my front and back blinkers and added led ones.
As for the ride it didnt seam like I changed the bike at all except for the handle bars.. However with the stock bars I would find myself riding with one hand on top of the mirror anyway..

Does the front end need to be lowered after you put the front wheel on? Great Bike. That blue just looks sharp!
Trrust32
01-13-2014, 11:05 PM
The guys at roaring toyz suggest that you lower it..but I had already done so because I lowered the tail about 2 inches already. So I'm not sure it is necessary.. However I have read many articles abt 21 inch wheel conversions and they suggest lowing one inch and if you lower the back two inches in the front..

02-08-2014, 12:53 AM
Wow, that looks awesome. Nicely done. How difficult is it lower the front? It's nice that everything you need to do the job is in the kit!
Trrust32
02-15-2014, 07:53 PM
Actually wasn't bad but you do have go take the forks completely out.. Then slide the covers off and there is a clamp you move down the fork tub and tighten... I only moved mine down about 5/8 of an inch...by the way I am no machanic so if I can do it any one can.. You don't need to take the wheel or finder off if you have someone helpping.. Just make sure u support the rear wheel because with out it the bike will come up on the jack
Trrust32
02-15-2014, 07:55 PM
One other thing if you lower the front and add the wheel there is potential that the blinkers will hit the fender

Thanks for the info. Man I love the look of that wheel. That is the main thing I miss about my 900 custom. Really changes the bike. I really don't want my bike any lower, I wonder how it handles without lowering it.

Very nicely done!
I've done some of the same things you have done. You can save yourself some coin by not buying a kit from roaring toyz and "piecing" it together yourself. I bought my wheel directly from Performance Machine. They are the ones that actually cut the rims. I also bought an intake cover to match my wheel directly from Performance Machince. I bought longer brake lines from my local shop. The only thing I actually bought from Roaring Toyz was the fender relocation kit. Which if you have design, would be very simple to cut and make yourself. Then find a local power coater to put a finish on for you. It is WELL worth it to buy the parts individually and build the kit yourself.

Well it finally was decent today so I went for a 30 40 mile ride. I honesty could not tell much diff in the ride except for the bars. Like them but need to find correct positioning. Rode the bike from low speeds to high rate and seams very balanced.. Love the changes and the confidence that was sold as a kit.. Not saying the other options can't work but like the comfort that it is proven by many...

I have received a few questions lately about the stance on my bike so I will repost this to make it easier to find. Things I have done. Lowered the front,21 inche wheel, mini apes, removed blinkers front and back, license plate relocation, modified rear bag reflectors, pcv with auto tune, freedom performance true duals, Made rear lowering links that you can get from Luverne Kawasaki, made tank bra and sell on eBay, and made Pendelton whisky plugs for front axle covers. I has been fun doing all these mods thanks to friends, Luverne Kawasaki, Budweiser and Pendelton whiskey..ride safe everyone

My 2015 Charcoal Cowboy. Freedom pipes with RT air cleaner and RT floor boards plus a mini-mini set of Burly apes ( experimental set at RT ). PC - V with Autotune plus I just installed the Dynojet POD -300. we used a 2011 Vulcan map and it ran ok and was going to bring to dyno - couldn't wait so I got Autotune and very happy with it. I have talked to Chris at DJ and he recommended to switch to a gear selected map so that it would have better map selection. That's my next thing to tweak. The POD 300 will data log for more fine tuning and give you actual AFR while driving. I actually bought it for my ZX14 dragbike but I can test on the 1700. I was driving back from a bike night and had some 103 HDs wanting to race and ate them all up.
I also have a RF amp and Kicker speakers to go with the I Pod adapter. Custom modified windscreen to clear bars - I think the stock one looks nice but wind noise is awful. I also added a second set of Kickers in pods just below fairing.
I actually used to work in RT CNC Machine shop and was around when Bobby built the RT vaquero. It had a monster sounds system with big sub woofers in the bags. They used my bike last fall to get some specs as PM doesn't make a wheel for the ABS plus needed specs on brake fittings for kit that comes with burly bars.
I had to help design and machine the backing plate for the air cleaner and we used the PM top until we designed our own. That air cleaner flows a lot of air so a PC off the internet map won't be perfect.
Now I want to lower even though I am 6 ft. This bike does sit high. I also want to change out the directionals and found some nice black ones and would like to make a rear bar to get rid of the stockers.

I like the speakers you have mounted low, do you get much sound from them!
are they kickers?
The tops are Kicker 5's and the bottoms are Kicker 4's with the buckets
The ski boats down here in Fla have a ton on the overhead bar cranking
http://www.kicker.com/power-sports-audio
Now kicker has a biker powersports line - with amps
good sound - I had to bridge the amp because it was 2 ch. At red ights its pretty annoying to the cars. I turned off the AVC because the amp guys say it messes up the amp. So I'm always turning it down. No distortion. I really would like a small sub woofer somehow but I haven't figured that out yet unless I want to lose bag space.
- I really wanted the second set in bags but the sounds goes behind you that way but its a cleaner setup. the HD'S have that top lid kits so its an easy install. Bob at RT is trying to make a kit for top of Vulcan or Vaquero bags but I came up with this idea. they come with clamps so I had them on the crash bars first but then made brackets to make it cleaner.

no clutch extension but this Burly bar set was a one off and only 8" high. The ones in the shop/catalog are 13" and need extensions. We left wiring outside. Did have to extend the brake line. I have ABS and the line flares are different.
