View Full Version : I've Been Stimulated

I logged into my bank account the other day and, to my surprise, I had more money in there than I thought. Uncle Sam put my "stimulus" tax refund in my account. Along with a few welcome hours of O/T from work and I decided to do a little shopping. (I also paid down a bill I don't like.)
So, I got in touch with Joe (Chuckster131) and ordered a set of his 2 1/2 inch riser extensions. Feeling like spending a bit more, I checked out e-bay. I found the guy in MD that sells the chrome fender tips and bought a set for the front and rear.
I'm looking forward to the extensions. I noticed the shoulder and neck aches, like everyone else. They're not too bad so I think the extensions will clear that right up. I made the decision to look for the tips when I noticed a chip on the edge of the fender. I touched it up but always liked the "classic" look the fender tips add. I had them on the old bike and they really saved the paint since I had no garage available and had to keep a cover on it when not riding. Nothing chews through paint on edges like a cover, even a good one will do it.
Has anyone ordered fender tips from this guy? The tips are from National Cycle so I know they're good. But, this guy had them for a much better price. I never understood how that worked. You try to get something from a manufacturer and you pay the full price. You go elsewhere, where that retailer had to pay a price and has to make a profit, and get the same thing for less.
So, anyone else been stimulated lately?

Unless I missed it, you never named the "guy from Maryland." I bought from an eBbayer in Ridge, MD, and the item came really fast (helps that I'm only about 2-3 hours away).
As for why retailers can offer it for less, I talked to a manufacturer about that. He said that if he offered it at a low price, then no retailer would stock the item because they couldn't compete with the manufacturer's price. And there is profit in selling to multiple retailers, so they take the hit (in numbers if not in price) in selling direct.

No, I didn't mention the guys name. There isn't a whole lot on ebay for the Nomads, and he was the only person I saw selling fender tips. I figured he was the only one and I couldn't remember his name without looking it up again. (CRS disease) But, Ridge, MD sounds right. Probably the same guy. I'm 3-4 hours in the other direction so, hopefully, they'll get to me as quickly. Maybe by next weekend so I can take them to my folks house and put them on while visiting

I got my fender tips from that ebay fellow, he didn't list if he offered "combined shipping", and I was wanting the 3 piece set. I emailed him to ask, and he replied that he would send them to me, all 3 pieces, S&H, for $175. so I told him to send them on. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif (got them in 3 days) A word of advice, the front ones are MUCH eaiser to install if you take the fender off the bike (real simple to do), and the one for the rear fender is the easiest one to install. AND they DO LOOK GOOD! http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

Crap, I should have thought of that and asked the same. Well, that's what happens when you get old.
new rubber, new computer, 2 ceiling fans at home depot and still have 600 left
I think my stimulation will pay for what I owe, almost.

I got my stimulus money the first day they were deposited. I've been paying up some bills and had to buy a new lawnmower. I used the money I got from selling my pontoon boat so I still have some to play with. :)

Your not that old, same age as my baby brother, when you get older, you'll learn to negotiate prices ;), I do it on just about every thing I buy, sometimes it works http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif and the fender tips were National Cycle.

Joe is very responsive. I've exchanged emails with him on a couple of occasions and have even spoken with him on the phone. As someone else mentioned, he's off with the VROC gang, but I'm confident he'll get in touch with you after he returns.
Darn !! From the thread title, I thought porno was back. Man ! Am I depressed !! :(

Does everyone realize that they will be taxed on their Stimulus check as income?
Better take 38% and set it aside.

Of course....Why would we just get "free" money? That doesn't suprise me. I bet they'll send out a special W-2 just for the $600. Of course that's gonna cost us in the end too.
Oh well, I just got the fender tips in and I received notification that Joe's riser extensions are on the way. The only problem I've run into so far is the supplied bolts for the fender tips aren't long enough. I'm gonna swing by my local bike shops tomorrow and see if one of them has something close that's about1/8 inch longer. The ones for the front tip are OK. I haven't gotten to the rear fender yet as I took a break. The ones for the rear of the front fender just don't cut it. I can't catch the nut (No comments, please. I know that sounds bad).
Thanks for the tip on removing the front fender to do the work. It is much easier this way.

Got a letter in the mail today from the IRS stating you will not have to claim it as taxable income on your 2008 return.

States could still nail you. Iowa taxes the federal refund.
