I give them two thumbs up and hope they are successful. I'd vote for it in my area. I'm tired of idiot bikers with open pipes roaring past my house at night in the summer. There simply is no justification for it. It's not a matter of personal freedom; it is simply rudeness.

That's a hefty fine. They already fine motorcycles in Salem, MA for loud pipes.

It was only a matter of time. :yep:

I am sure there will be some crying about their "rights" :lmao:

Their assumed rights end at the moment my rights are violated. In this case, my ear-drums :D

No issue with that. My cottage is located about 1500 feet off of a very popular motorcycle route, The 327 where probably up to a 1000 bikes will pass on a nice weekend day. The loud ones gets dam annoying after awhile, but what is worse is the guy who had super loud pipes and a cranked up stereo so he can hear the tunes. I don't mind pipes that are only slightly louder than stock, but those who take it to the extreme are the main reason communities are fighting back.

How about the punks with the 5000 watt stereos thumping bass and rattling windows or the Honda Civic crowd with the huge fart cans for mufflers? If you're going after noise, go after all sources.

The civics are probably the most annoying and ridiculous. They make all kinds of abnoxious noise and are hardly moving. :lmao:

Not sure how anyone could think that is "cool" or impressive. :hmm:

Got to love 'em when they put that huge air-foil on the trunk!

In Rockford, IL the loud audio systems are illegal. Third offense and you can have your car impounded. I never see them enforce it though.

Sounds good to me. But I'm also fine with starting by solving some of the problem, and in my area the motorcycles are by far to most egregious offenders. I have no problem with a little extra rumble over stock, but the guys around here with straight pipes are just way over the line. And some of those idiots like to roar down our road WOT at closing time. Enough already!

With all that said I find it hard to believe they have time to crack down on loud motorcycles when they are having a dozen people shot every night.

Solving the murders doesn't pay anything..it costs time and so money. But at $1,000 a pop, they can balance their budget with motorcycle muffler fines.

I hear you Scott. I am more concerned about bikes though because it is something I love and if I can see the annoyance then non biking residents probably can even more so. If enforcing loud pipe laws don't work then at some point small towns that get over run with loud bikes may try to role up the welcome mat for all of us. It happened with snowmobiles in several places around me trails closed and small towns banned them due to loud pipes. Problem is 90% of the offenders were not the locals, but out of Towner's passing through or trailering machines up for a weekend of riding.

I don't know how many times I have said " if we do not police ourselves the powers that be will do the policing for us "
My Dr. says I have to stay calm so that is all I have to say.

Me too, you would think they had better stuff to do, rather than go after loud pipes.

What's your thought on the cars with those loud cans on them, or the one who think everyone in a 2 block radius should appreciate their taste in music? I have no problem with targeting as long as everyone is targeted equally under the law.

The exhaust on my bike is stock, but this is just one more reason for me to not go into Chicago. I already can't drive down Lakeshore Drive (and a number of other Parkways) without getting ticketed just because I drive a pick-up.

Why no picksups allowed on those parkways?

When I was shopping for my Nomad I found a really nice (and newer) Classic that I loved....until I started it. I just could not do that to my neighbors and general public. I would have had to do a new exhaust system....killed the deal.

I think excessively loud pipes are not just rude but egotistical. "Look at me! I need attention!" . I lost my hearing but who cares .... how cool do my pipes sound?

I also agree with the whole window busting car issue....look at me! I need attention...and yes you will hear my music. But wait Tim....... maybe loud pipes and music in cars saves lives too?

Classic low muscular sound on cars/bikes is fine....but keep it within reason.

Lake Shore Drive does not allow trucks on it because it is congested enough with commuters. The law was intended for larger, delivery and semi trucks; however it was never stated specifically to that point, thus if you have "truck plates" and drive on Lake Shore Dr., then you could technically get a ticket.

A bit ridiculous, to say the least. I have, however, driven on Lake Shore Drive many times in a pickup when I owned one and never was ticketed. So, I would assume Chicago PD are reasonable about the law's intention.
