I did it and overall I am happy. It is probably worth it just for the cruise control. The Voyager handles a lot better in the corners with the shorter wheel base, but it also means the seating is more cramped than the 1600. I had a Corbin seat on the Nomad and the stock Voyager seat just did not fit me (6' 1", 240lbs). I went with a Russell on the Voyager and that was a great investment. Overall, the Voyager is much more comfortable on those long road trips, but the 1600 Nomad had more "character".

I made the switch in 2012 from a 2008 Nomad to a 2011 Voyager and have not been disappointed at all. I am 6'2" with a 34 inseam and went with the Russell Day Long Seat (had one on the Nomad also). Well worth it in my opinion. Haven't had any regrets with my decision.

Going from a 1600 Nomad to a 1700 Voyager at first might dissappoint you as the 1600 is such a good bike. Once the memories of the 1600 start to fade you will see the advantages of the 1700 Voyager. At first you will feel like you are sitting on the tank on the Voyager compared to the 1600. If you and your passenger are large people you will feel cramped on the Voyager. The Voyager is quicker and more nimble than a 1600. The trunk, fairing lowers, radio and cruise control are nice to have. I have no regrets selling the 1600 Nomad and getting a Voyager.

I went from a 600Ninja to the Voyager. Two different worlds but I couldn't be happier. I just realized I liked riding too much to have a sportbike. Debated on keeping it and rode it several times after buying the voyager but just wasn't satisfied with it anymore. I do occasionally miss the sound of it but that's about all. Hard to beat cruise, radio, saddlebags, trunk, etc.
