+3. I don't get it. Most of this article is about one persons opinion, not facts. He complains about how much money they cost. Really? If they cost to much, you don't want it enough or simply can't afford it. That's his issue, not everyone else's. He complains about color.....and that bolting parts on you won't get your money back on it. Guess what, that's true for more than just baggers?? He says it takes an "Expert Rider" and that if your not riding with the kind of gear meet "his" standards, it must be a rookie rider.
Sounds like he has an axe to grind. Oh wait, someone already said that.

Ya I really think this guy just cant afford the bike he really wants . obviously a bigger heavier machine will not stop as quick as a smaller one ? and will go though more tires ,but are the bagger bikes not designed for the more weight that we have put on them and is not why manufacturers are building them with a little bigger motor and better braking ie: ABS ?

What to Hell was that crap?? I will say the most common reason someone doesn't like a certain Cruiser style bike is because they can't afford it. Their foolish pride just won't allow them to admit it. Basic premise of the story was I don't have the $$$$.

I read through it better (first time was on my phone) and it's nothing but pure, unadulterated bulls**t!
Nobody in their right mind would advocate using a Sportster as a bagger.

Under his advice column he says not to trust the BBB because they ruled against him 3 times but 2 paragraphs down he says to trust them. Most of his writing is the same. He praises something and then condemns it or vice versa.

wow, allot of ignorance and one sided opinion in that "article" if you can call it that. There were a couple of points in there that have "some" truth to them like removing one of the front brake rotors to show off the rim having a negative effect on braking. Overall though the author is full of it and there is a underlying factor for his negativity that I'm not sure of.

James Russell of James Russell Publishing (the author) has had a long-standing beef with Harley Davidson -- excluding the Sportster; of which he thinks is the best bike built.
No one seems to know his history, but he has written incessantly about how Harley's are the worst bike ever. He has gone to great length to plead his case.
He appears to have some mechanical/engineering knowledge (expertise?); but uses it wholeheartedly to bad-mouth HD.
This rant appears to include any "bagger"; although he still centers on HD's.
He does have a couple points with regard to the larger front rims with low-profile tires. I have seen article after article about the problems/dangers/tire-wear when using these rims.
I avoid his bullshit most of the time...

I find it odd also... Other writings from him, he states the Sportster is the best bike built. He mostly rants about how its motor is superior to the motors HD uses on its tourers.
Much of any glory he might have had in his rants on HD tourers was spoiled when HD made changes to those things he bitched about.
Maybe he was right about his complaints, because HD made the changes he thought they should. :D

Ya wilson there sure are alot of HD haters out there strange as they are the pioneers of the industry umm and we all model our nomads after them ?if we did that we would be running air cooled motors. No thanks. I don't hate HD, I just don't like the price, or the ergonomics, at 6' 1" I just didn't find enough leg room, and yes, I did own one. For a month.

well I didn't mean to open up a can worms about HD'S they have be at it a long time thats what I meant about pioneers , weather they are a quality product for the price not sure but there is definitely an HD bagger crazy out there dont you think
Sometimes I bash Harley riders but only in fun. I had a 2011 streetglide for 6 wks., then sold it to my brother inlaw. I too have long legs and felt cramped on it. But that's just me...love the Nomad.
This Russell guy doesn't deserve the read he's getting...definitely a disturbed boy.

What a nut job. I was particularly interested in part of comment 40:
"Removing pounds increases cubic inches and power output relatively speaking."
So-if I lose 100 pounds does that make my 1700 an 1800? LOL

The good news out of this is that now I know to not spend any money on anything related or endorsed by James Russell, as that fantasy show that he is either trying to be a comedian (FAIL!) or has no idea of how to research a professional article. Wonder if he works on the Obamacare web site as a programmer?
