Does anyone know how much mileage you get once the gas light comes on for an 03? My Shadow had a reserve switch and unless I totally missed something is it safe to assume there isn't one on the nomad (I just got the bike a month ago and never really gave it any thought)

I'm not aware of any reserve switches on the Nomad. Plan on about 15 miles once the light is on steady. Mine came on this week and rode to the next station about 10 miles out. Took 5.02 gallons to fill it. Close.

2008 nomad when my light comes on it takes about 4.2 gallon to fill so there should be about 1 gallon left

I run my bike about 30 miles after the light is on steady, it comes on with 1 gallon left in the tank. The better your mileage, the more reserve you have.

Depends on how hard you're runn'n. Redeye accused me of runn'n out of gas this weekend, and he assured me I could make it with the light on for a some time.anyway, but he has no pictures to prove it. I just don't believe him actually.

The owner's manual says .8 gallon when the light comes on....How many mile more depends on many factors. Such as how fast and/or hard your riding...Headwind or not...Ect..Ect

Looks like there is a variance in the 2008 Nomads.

Running at a steady speed on level roadway mine takes 4.5 gallons to fill up when the light comes on.

Like Idaho, I try to fill-up before 15 or at the most 20 miles.

My MPG varies dramatically. Depending upon speed and headwind/tailwind I get from 30 to 45 MPG.

Coincidently my 2000 1500 FI Nomad (pictured below) with a 4.2 gallon tank, takes 3.5 gallons to fill-up when the reserve lamp illuminates.

When my lite comes on there is about 2 gallons left in the tank. I HAVE NEVER RAN OUT OF GAS EITHER! I have pushed some bikes who had tho.................... But thats another story I'm saving for the rally. I'm gonna check with a in country store in "PAICINES" California & see if they have video surveillance. -Rich

I average a solid 35-mpg, this is with a mtc trike kit attached. With a solid light, Ive run 32 miles and was on fumes.

filled up this morning,I put in 4.4 gal. the light just came on steady. 180 miles = 40.9 mpg, steady 2 lane road.
I have a question, the tank holds 5.3 gal., right. Is that to the baffle or the rim???

Liz's 04 Nomad could run on fairly level ground, 40 miles at 70 mph with the light steady on and still have gas left. Her bike only had V & H Baggers and a K & N air filter and got around 40 mpg at 70 mph.

I know of a brother who's bike drew all 5.3 gallons.

This morning the middle bar disappeared leaving two and I pulled into the station and it took 3.45 gallons to fill. Seems to be somewhat accurate as the bars disappear.

I can get about 20 miles on mine just dont go up ant hills. It started spitting and coughing on me when i was going up hill. I had to kinda run a red light to get to the ags station before it died on me . Way to close for my taste. I have the v&h hypercharger and the pc111 i get about 30-34 mpg.

my 03 nomad seems to vary, sometimes i go 3 gallons and the light comes on, sometimes i go 4.1 gallons and the light comes on, i read the light, but i trust my mileage much more, i know that i can go 150 miles and still have about 20 miles to go safely. i have pushed my bike up to 180 miles just to see if i would run out of gas and at that point it took 4.6 gallons to fill the tank, this happend around Phoenix AZ. coming back from El Paso,Tx.

Like Spirello, my bike wants a gas station soon after the light comes on. Not long after mine came on while driving in city traffic, mine started dying at lights. It would cough and hesitate, and I'd have to shake it side to side to keep it running.

I didn't keep track of the mileage, but I was only riding around down town Denver, couldn't have been more than 10 miles I would think.

Sounds like some of them give more warning than others.

I've ran out of gas and still never pumped 5 gallons. I think 4.8 is the most I've ever pumped

The most Ive ever put in was 19.3 litres=5.1 US gallons or 4.25 CDN gallons.

On my 04 Nomad the light varies anywhere from 140 to 160 miles before it comes
on and I have riden up to 212 miles before almost running out of gas.

This past weekend I know of someone who pumped 4.95 gallons AFTER we put a quart (2 sixteen ounce watter bottles) in his tank & he ran 5 miles to the gas station.

Thanks for all the feedback-the consensus is GET SOME DAMN GAS SOON AFTER THAT LIGHT COMES ON!

My 07 Nomad low fuel light has come on twice and both times it required 4.1 gallons to fill. That would give me about 39 miles of room, give or take a couple. After reading the posts, I wouldn't try it though.

My 08 fuel light starts flashing around 190 miles and takes 4.3 to 4.5 to fill.

Pretty close to what the manual states.....
