Looking to find out who has changed there stock Vaquero seat with aftermarket and if your satisfied or unsatisfied???

Was there an increase in height? a decrease in height? and comfort - a lot or just a little? was it worth the cost??

Thanks again for all the help!!

Stock vaquero seat is only seat I've ever replaced. It's just awful. Very happy with Mustang seat with driver backrest. Wife probably more impressed cause she had nothing on that stock seat. It was crazy expensive though $687 maybe? If I didn't have $500 gift card I provably would have waited another year or look for something used not sure about positioning - maybe a bit higher & a bit forward?? I'm 6'4 so didn't really affect me.

Replaced mine by having the stock seat rebuilt by Kontour Seat (http://www.kontourseat.com/). Height stays the same, a hell of a lot more comfortable, and flows air under my butt to keep monkey butt away. And I got to keep the Vaquero looks by not putting a LazyBoy on top of it. All in all, I've been very pleased. After saying all that, it is an expensive seat.

I bought a Mustang also with both driver and passenger backrests. Very comfortable for my wife and I. I honestly didn't notice much of a difference in my riding position. Maybe just a tad more forward. I like the looks of the stock seat better and I really don't find it that uncomfortable so if I am going for shorter rides by myself I put the stock seat back on. Had to buy another seat bracket (the one that attaches to the bottom of the seat and plugs into the bracket on the fender) as the Mustang doesn't come with one.

I purchased a mustang seat that came with one backrest. It can be placed in the front or rear passenger portions of the seat. I personally do not use it in the drivers location. I have one time since I owned the seat but that was on a little 3,000 mile ride. In my opinion the seat felt as if I was sitting lower but at the same time it sat me up a little bit more. At first I absolutely HATED this seat. I was to the point I was going to send it back. I purchased the seat from cruisercustomizing. It was under $700 and came with free shipping. It took about 600 miles for the seat to break in. After that break in period I love this seat. I wouldn't go back to the stock seat for anything. Kind of hard to explain but to me it feels this seat "holds" you onto the bike much better.

The Voyager seat is hiddeous! At least they should have created a depression in the gas tank for your nuts to rest in. I always feel like I am humping the gas tank, and I can't see any reason for it.
When I get some cash, the seat will be the first thing I change on this thing.

I want a seat that helps to keep you cooler. I think I just found it. Thank you Old Bear!

Ditto.
I need a seat that sits back further because I am on the tank too much. Any ideas on which seats sit back further?

Can anyone tell me if anything is modified to the factory seat bracket when installing a mustang? I am looking at a used mustang for my Vaquero and want to know what else I might need, or need to ask for from the seller.

Thanks

The bracket from the stock seat bolts right up to the Mustang seat no modification needed. That being said I just cannot understand how a $700 plus seat does not come with the bracket. I checked at the local dealership and the bracket is $50

I am sending my seat off to LAAM for a re-working next week or so. I had a Saddleman seat on my last bike, very similar to a Mustang, but I didn't care for it. I guess that all of those seats that are aftermarket "off-the-shelf" didn't appeal to me, I wanted something more custom, so I am having Seth build me one, and he gives you plenty of choices on materials, etc.. I will post here when I get it back!

Seat looks great Don.

Just picked up a Mustang with driver backrest off of eBay today. Can't wait to try it out. I just hope it doesn't push me further up on the tank compared to stock. I'm sure my wife will love it.

Have you had any time to ride yet Don? Looking forward to hearing your opinion on the seat. I personally don't care for the looks of the Russells but your's doesn't look too bad. I have the mustang already but looking for something a little better for LOOONG rides.

No I haven't, it will probably be a couple of weeks before I'm back on the road
I should pick up my V&H 2into 1 pro pipe tonight but I have to order a stainless clutch line and finish my intake breather before I can ride.

Please let us know what you think about the Mustang. I am interested to hear if you think it pushes you forward or sets you back. So many conflicting opinions!

All the opinions it seems that I read said it moved you forward, thats why I didn't want one. When I talked to Seth Laam, he said he thinks he can move me back up to about 1-1/2" in the seat (which would be great, but I am not sure its do-able). We will see! I will be taking measurements/photos to send to him this weekend, and I will be sure to check that.

I have the mustang but have a little different take on it. I don't feel like the seat moves your forward exactly. It makes me feel like I'm sitting up a little more. Maybe you could call moving forward but just not the same in my opinion. My rear doesn't feel like it moved closer to the front of the bike, just that I was sitting up farther. Hopefully that makes sense. The mustang is a vast improvement over the stock seat. And for 99% of rides its just fine. The really really week long rides is where I find myself looking for more from it. Maybe thats the just the nature of sitting in the seat for 3k miles a week on a motorcycle. Hard to say but thats my take on it.

I don't think mine is that far back. But it is definitely farther back because my feet barely reach my highway pegs now

If you can spend 3K a week in any seat its certainly better than the stock. The most I put (keep in mind I just bought the bike in Mid-October) was 675 or so in 2 days. Like I said, I had an off-the-shelf aftermarket gel seat on my Suzuki, and it seemed better until I got a backrest, then I went back to the OEM seat (and kept the backrest) and it seemed better ( I have pics of that "homemade" backrest on my profile page). Maybe my rear just needed a change, ANY change, who knows, but I wanted to try something a bit more custom this time....

I'll be holding out for a full report Don. I prefer the looks of your seat to the others I've seen on the market. I'm half tempted to see if he would just build a seat and let me put my own skin on it.

give him a call
I don't see why he wouldn't
he can do just about anything you could want anyway

I agree with Don. Seth is super easy to talk to, and willing to do whatever is neede to make you happy. I would talk to him. You would just have to work out the warranty side of it, or maybe considering sending him the material you want to use to cover the seat, and let him do it maybe?
