So I've read several threads/posts on MPG. Lets keep it simple. How many miles till "Fuel" starts flashing on the Vaquero display?
Disappointed this past weekend when it showed up at 143 miles and then 146 miles. At one point i had cruise control set at 80 for almost 100 miles. Everything is stock on my bike. Wind was brutal so could be a factor. I just don't remember getting better than 150's last year either.

At 80 MPH, that bike would be sucking gas like crazy.

I'm used to 4 carbs on old royal star so thought FI would improve it a bit and OD should help too.
Range between fillups is less than I thought.

Best I can guesstimate, the FUEL light comes on with about 50 miles left at current usage. That is recalculated however, about every second or so. I can be running around 80 mph, have the light come on, then get off the big road going into town at a more sedate 55 mph. The light then goes off and I drive another 20 miles before it comes back on.
I average about 40 mpg with over half of that high-speed Interstate driving every day. I can easily kick that on up to around 45 mpg by staying on country roads. I am hopeful that the Cobra Tri-ovals will bump that up some more as well.

I have a Voyager, with the trunk removed and shorty windshield installed the fuel light comes on regularly at 340 kms (210 miles), with a tall windshield and trunk installed the light comes on at 300 kms (180 miles).
I never drive 80 mph.
edit..... bike has stock intake, computer, and exhaust.

Not to hijack my own thread but 80 on vaquero was 75 per Garmin Zumo. But that's another story for another thread. It was major highway so going with traffic.

Fuel consumption on the Vulcans varies, depending on how we ride and the weather conditions.
Me being a sportbike guy I can attest to the fact the Vaq,Voyager and Nomad have aerodynamics like a barn door. Any speed over 55-60 mph plays into mpg. If I am riding with the wind at my back, mpg is great. Riding into the wind mpg suffers greatly. No matter what the wind is doing speeds over 65 mph really sucks the fuel.
My light comes on depending on how I ride and the wind conditions, so it can come on as low as 130 miles or as high 195.

My best milage I have ever got is 36 mpg. I usually have cruise set at 70-75 and am two up. 36 being the best but mostly around 34.

When I'm running 70-75 mph on my commute, it claims I'm getting ~44 mpg. I never really pay attention to when the fuel light comes on but the bikes claims of mpg seem to be pretty close to me.

Not when you're rolling at 80 MPH. Above about 65 MPH fuel economy starts to decline on these big bikes.

Perhaps, but your Nomad did.

When I was heading back to Flagstaff from the Grand Canyon on US 89, the wind was howling through there at between 30 and 40 MPH with stronger gusts. We were riding about 65 MPH through there and this CCT came past us running at least 80 MPH. He didn't seem to be fighting the wind as bad as I was at all. Is that thing that much better in the wind or was the guy that passed us just a crazy SOB? :???:

You get to pick which statement you get to make at the end of the day:
Option 1: Man, I had the cruise set on 80 MPH all day! This big ol' twin was just gobbling the miles! Yes, it took a little extra gas but 30 MPG is still double what my pick up gets!
Option 2: Man, I had the cruise on 60 MPH all day. Just smelling the flowers, enjoying the scenery and taking the time to enjoy life. Don't hurt that the 45 MPG is tripple what my pick up gets and I saved enough to pay for dinner!
High Speed and High MPG are mutually exclusive conditions on our Vulcans.

Hmmmm..I'll pick option 2, but then again I really like to eat. :tehe:

I'll take option 1. My Expedition gets 13mpg so at 34mpg I am way ahead and if I am doing 60 I just feel I am not getting anywhere. I know it is about the ride but on the Highway the ride is more fun at 80mph.

I need option 1 or I could end up in Hotels for an extra 2 nights on the way to Colorado. The money I save will pay for food. I'm a big fan of eating too....

I'm pretty happy, I get about 42.5 doing 75-80 and about 44.5ush when I do 65 or below. and those numbers are based on my calculations. I never trust what the bike says

Just my 2 bits on this subject, when my fuel message flashes I have 50 miles of range left, 55 miles and I'm calling AAA to bring me gas. Wind has defiantly effected my mileage, and strangely enough at 60mph I get 45-46mpg, 70mph, 41-42mpg, 80mph 43-44mpg. Seems to be in the engines sweet spot at 80 and it just purrs. I believe synthetic oil, Tri Ovals, Cobra Power Pro, and K&N high intake air filter all help my mpg.

My bike is pretty consistent as to when the fuel message comes on. It's almost always at 182 miles. The disclaimer here is that this is my "commuting mileage". I keep my my cruise on and try to keep it at 70. If I get my giddy up on too much it drops considerably. If I pay attention I can do two round trips to work and back. If not I have to get fuel every trip and a half.

Play time is quite a bit different. I get about 35 mpg when I'm enjoying myself. Sometimes you just gotta open her up a bit.

My low fuel warning comes on around 270 kilometres from fill up.

The light came on at 187.2 mls on yesterday's ride with about 40 miles to empty on the display. Filled up with 197 mls on odo, took 5 gallons for a 39.4 mpg. My mpg display was showing 47.somethin, quite a ways off!!
The ride was a mix of some stop and go city, mild cruising up and down Old Cutler Road and lotsa hiway miles.
And rain!!
