A new product called Vololights (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/vololights/vololights-enhanced-motorcycle-visibility?ref=live)is trying to get started up. It flashes it's own brake light on decel. Interesting safety thought.

They would be illegal in a lot of states and provinces, not allowed to have continuously flashing lights, mine flash three times and then go steady, they are on the line but most LEOs will let them go. I saw this item before in another article.
I am leery also of items that do not have a price, and if I put an amount into this, do I get a share of the final selling price? I much prefer an item that has a cut and dried selling price clearly displayed. The other question as well is if they will actually be certified by DOT in the US and Canada.

Back in the early 70s GM flew a trail baloon that never got past NHTSA. They had a three light system on the back of the vehicle. Green for no decelleration. Orange for foot off the gas and red when you touched the brake pedal. I thought it was a good idea but the NHTSA thought different. :D

I really like the idea. I always pull the brake lever a couple times when decelerating by means other than braking. Well I like to think I always do, but I'm sure I do not every time.

Pretty good idea. I hope they get it funded and out on the market.

I do the same thing. A light touch on the front brake after every downshift until its clutch in and full brakes on.

As I am slowing down, I usually pump the front brake gently several times before applying full stopping.

I bought and installed this one. Works great and really gets attention. I like it because as soon as you speed up, it stops flashing. Hooked it to the brake light on the trunk.

The varying flash patterns would only be effective if CAR drivers know what they mean. - Those infamous rubber-band riders that love to hear themselves accel and decel will have lights flashing all the time.
I agree, that a biker aware of their own surroundings is safer than relying on the attentiveness of any cars around them anyhow, and a conscious effort to alert them by tapping the brake lever is still a smart idea. The Volo Light may be an alright idea, but if this was the Shark-Tank, I'd say, "I'm Out"

I like this idea (minus the green), and this is sort of what the school buses do here. They will turn on the top yellow flashers as they slow down for a pickup. Once stopped, they will turn on the red flashers and pop the sign out.

I don't think I'd be to keen on that setup especially in city traffic, I think that flashing light would be coming on almost continuously as your on and off the throttle so often.

I put in a Kisantech Tailblazer plug in tail light. It has all the same flash on decel then go solid functions.

If I recall it was about $65. You can replace the bulb alone from any auto parts store and keep using the base. The law in GA says you can have periodic flash (decel) and low intensity steady on (running lights) on rear as long as they are red.
