Added some new "features" (ie: toys) to the Nomad this weekend, which left me with the need to mount a couple of small items within easy reach.

After exploring my options online, I was disappointed at the cost and complexity of what was offered. So off to the hardware store I went to see what I could find. Home Depot had the perfect solution! They called it a "5 Inch Flat Corner Brace." I called it a "mirror mounted bracket" :)

I tried to take some pics along the way, as my descriptions probably won't be the greatest.

1) Enlarge one of the holes near the corner so the threaded mirror post will fit through the bracket. I used a 13/32" bit, but check your own!

2) Put mirror through the enlarged hole and install onto bike. Position the bracket and snug the mirror just enough to hold everything in place. Mark the bottom of the bracket (Sharpie works great) along the rounded edge of the mirror mount. This will show you where to make the needed bend in step 3.

3) Remove the bracket and make the needed 90-degree bend, according to the reference mark you made in step 2.

4) Place mirror back through the bracket and test fit onto bike. Hold accessory to be mounted into position and mark a line to cut extra material off for proper size. Do the same for the portion of the bracket extending away from / behind the mirror.

5) Remove bracket from bike and trim excess material along cut lines marked in step 4. Be sure to clean up sharp edges left from cuts / drilling!!

6) Place mirror back through the bracket and mount onto bike, positioning bracket to your liking.

7) I chose Industrial Strength Velcro to mount my accessories, but zip ties could be also be used. Choose what makes you happy and best fits the application.

Step back, admire your work, and enjoy the immense savings and satisfaction of a DIY project!

The BEST part of this project? The cost per bracket is only $1.57+tax :)

Another one of those "why didn't I think of that" ideas.
Good job.

Thanks! The zinc plating even makes it shine a lil', which is always a good thing :D

Great idea! I wonder if a marine store has something similar in stainless steel ...

May have to use this as an idea for emergency light switch locations!

Is the metal cracked at the bend (in front of the mirror)? If so, I'd find another kind of metal. It would suck if it broke. If not, great idea.

Good eye, but it's just some sharpie leftovers I hadn't cleaned off very well :tehe:

In that case, great idea!

Great idea, I've been trying to find a way to mount my TPS. I think I would polish the bracket and spray it with clear mag wheel paint.
