View Full Version : First and ?Last? Rally

So many people are changing or cancelling travel plans because they can not afford fuel anymore and with our first ever KawaNOW rallies coming up this summer it occurs to me that these may be the last of their kind. We may have smaller rallies that draw from smaller geographical regions but the kind that we have now that draws people from a thousand miles may be a thing of the past. Make this one a good one. Take pix.

That's a sad thought, Idaho. I like to think I'm saving money by taking the bike on a trip, 2x the gas mileage of my automobile, 4x the gas mileage of my SUV. MY wife is taking her own vacation in late summer, and flying to Denver.

I hope you aren't right this time.

This has happend before. About 1978, folks were panicking over fuel prices. I got a hella deal on a 400 cu. in. Bronco back then. Don't worry bout it...

I don't think prices will go down this time.

Or 100 MPG Nomads..

If gas hits $10 a gallon, I'm still gonna ride.

I may adjust the fuel injection to run on coal tar or paint thinner or cheap rum, but I'll still ride.

Well, if it is cheap rum, I am gonna have to get a 10 gallon tank for the rest stops, lol.

I'll tell you what, I am with you caddman, I am still gonna ride. I've waited so long for a bike and now I'm gonna ride till I can't anymore.

I think the high cost of fuel will make more RIDE to vacations instead of drive.
I cut my cost of driving to work vs riding to work by 65%. so trips are good and we have the perfect bike!

How 'bout a bike that runs on methane ? Could be a possibility.

Okay, Gas is what, about a buck a gallon more than a year ago. You want to take a couple thousand mile trip, forty miles to the gallon, going to need 50 gallons, or $50 more. I can't ski for a day for that, or have dinner and a movie, or have a couple of pizzas and drinks, out of examples but you get the idea. The trip will last for days and memories a lifetime, which might not be too long - Go for it!!!
(Not that I support these outrageous prices, just find some place else to cut back if at all possible.)

I would agree, even though gas is higher, when it comes to vacation expenses it's the least expensive thing on a drive too vacation location. The gas expense has more bite in your daily travel budget than it does for a once or twice a year drive to vacation destination.

Uh, that rum's gotta be denatured (made undrinkable by adding icky stuff) or the Feds tax you an extra $13.50 per 100 proof gallon, and 100 proof won't burn worth beans. You need 180~200 proof, so figure about $26 tax per gallon if you wanna slurp the same fuel as the Nomad.

Yeah, but rum you can make in the back yard. Methane is tougher. Plus you gotta compress it. And the smell! WhoooWee! The smell.

Buds's Land Sales. 10 acres of prime NFS land on the bank of the Snake River. Think anyone will notice?

I hear what Ells is saying and I've considered that. As was noted though the day to day expenses have gotten outrageous in a very short period of time and it is starting to affect the decisions that folks are making.

I know the feeling. Yesterday, I passed an Exxon station close to my house, and 87 octane was $3.57. I got home, got on my riding gear, went for an hour ride. Decided to gas up befrore I went home. Stopped at that same Exxon station. 87 octane was $3.62. I understand Sam's and Wal Mart are going to start selling camels and horses soon. :)
