For those that have Sena BT, be sure to check your firmware on their website and update it if you don't have the latest on your unit. I bought a SPH10H FM for my half helmet and was shocked that it had substantially more volume available than my pair of SMH10 units had. I went on Sena's website and checked their firmware page and realized that my SMH10's were two versions behind the latest firmware. It listed in the description that one of the things addressed in the update was better volume range. When I updated the firmware on the SMH10's the volume level was equal to the new unit I had just bought.
The sound output, which was already good in the first place is now markedly better. I can't turn the volume up all the way now or it hurts my ears. I used to have to crank it up all the way at speed when there were cross winds present.
If you have never done this, you need to download their update manager to your computer. Here's the link...
http://www.senabluetooth.com/support...d_document.php (http://www.senabluetooth.com/support/pre_download_document.php)
Just download the proper software for your given computer and follow the instructions to update your unit(s).

Good lookin' out, fammdw! I'm in the market for a SENA and have seen a few used ones at good prices. I didn't know you could update the older ones.

Thanks Mike. Do you know what version the firmware update is? I received notification with a link to a new one back in January.
"We are pleased to announce the release of the firmware version 4.2 beta of the SMH10 with a few improvements such as multipoint, music volume and multi-language voice prompt."

Thanks, I better update.
Now,....how do I do that? I suppose I should have a USB attach. that goes to the SENA and to my computer? Does it update straight to the side mount unit? OR
Do I download to the laptop and then hook up to the SENA. My memory fails me again.

You can't update the first generation, so be a little careful about the model you buy... Some more unscrupulous sellers may try to foist an older one off, so look for the expression "firmware upgradeable" in the sales pitch and you should be OK.

You need a little program on your computer called "SenaBluetoothDeviceManager" (was their space bar broken?) which is available from this page here (http://tinyurl.com/bwp2fhp) once you're registered. You have to plug your Sena device in (yes, using a micro USB lead) for it to complete the install... Follow the prompts from there.
That Sena site provides quite a bit of information, including Forums where suggestions for improvements can be left. That's one of the things I like about Sena... they're listening to their users. The "volume increase" firmware upgrade was a direct result of feedback they got on their forum.
I'm pretty sure most of the issues Garry mentioned he's experienced in the other thread might be fixed with a firmware upgrade and careful placement of the speakers?

Thank you very much. I'll make sure I watch out for that.
